Tammy Anderson-Lee

Volunteer, Autism Society San Diego

Tammy Anderson-Lee’s contributions to Autism Society San Diego not only are impressive but they’re clearly definable. Over the last 13 years, she has zeroed in on a serious issue related to Autism, one that by no means resides on everyone’s “radar.” Drowning is the number one cause of death for children with Autism who are under the age of 14. Tammy has worked tirelessly to mitigate that harsh reality, developing techniques to teach Autistic children how to swim.

In the process, she has become a renowned expert on this subject. Of course, most important is the fact that in the process, she has saved lives.

All culminating now to nearly 13 years of saving lives, via thousands of hours of volunteer instructional hours to Autism Society San Diego, and the creation of the” Pool PALS” (Pool for Persons with Autism Learning to Win) program. This initiative is both unique and innovative with three components: an adaptive swimming lesson program; free monthly pool and pizza parties for the children involved; and the “Surf Camp for Persons with Autism.”
