Thea Halo’s first career was as a painter. She attended The Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture.
Ms Halo has also worked as an announcer and producer for Public Radio in Upstate NY and a news correspondent for WBAI in NYC.
Following a 1989 pilgrimage with her mother to find her mother’s home in the Pontos region of Turkey, Ms Halo began to write poetry and short stories, and soon after commenced the writing of her mother's memoir, Not Even My Name. She has won numerous awards for her poetry, and her literary and political essays and was a major influence in the passing of a 2007 Resolution at the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), which acknowledged the concurrent Genocide of the Pontians and other Asia Minor Greeks and Assyrians alongside the Genocide of Armenians.
