I was nervous for my show at the Women in Comedy Festival. Arriving to the venue on Barbara-time (half an hour early), I had plenty of time to scope out the world famous Comedy Studio in Harvard square. It was on the third floor of a Hong Kong restaurant and has stand up comedy Tuesday-Sunday. The room is a trapezoid shaped with the stage up against the smaller wall; it has low ceilings and is a perfect room for stand up.

The show was hosted by Boston comic Kate Ghiloni, who was very funny, dry and a solid mc. I was up third and it went well. The crowd was excited, kind and attentive, (as a Women in Comedy Festival crowd usually is), and Kate did a great job of warming them up. When I got off stage I was shaking from the adrenaline and giddy and some of the women hugged me as I stumbled to the back of the room. I loved how supportive that felt, to be around other women who were genuinely happy that someone did okay, as opposed to the stereotype of competitive all-for-one stand up comics. WICF is a really encouraging empowering environment.

Everyone on the show was great and did very well. I was particularly impressed with Janey Godley, a Scottish comic with a tight, punchy yet conversational strong style. It was very clear as soon as she opened her mouth that she was an experienced, funny headliner. I also really liked Arden Myrin, who was ridiculously funny and full of bubbly energy. And my friend Maggie Maye from Austin destroyed with a sassy, charming and smart set. When I first got there I had considered leaving after my set to go watch another show, but everyone on the lineup was so strong that I couldn't tear my eyes from the stage and I'm so happy I stayed for the whole thing. It was a well produced show full of talent and I was so honored to have been a part of it.
