Breaking News: Penis Size in the USA

Posted: 02/22/10 06:49 PM ET

Just last week, America's first condom store, Condomania, opened its database of penis sizes and released these unique rankings of the 50 states and the 20 most populated U.S. cities by average penis size. Previously, the largest formal survey of penis sizes was conducted in 1948 by the famous Kinsey researchers, when 2,500 men recorded their erect penis sizes. In this ten-times larger database, the user measures the length and girth of his erect penis to the millimeter and then matches those results to one of 76 possible sizes that comprise different length and girth combinations. What made this all possible? In 2004, the company launched TheyFit condoms --the world's first line of tailored-fit prophylactics.

Just think of the jokes, pun, and terminology that will ensue after this study. Here's one: "genital relocation" -- if the competition is too "stiff" in your city, you can always move to Dallas or Philadelphia where you might, um, stand out more.

Can I suggest a follow up study? Now that we know who has the biggest stick, I suggest finding out who really has the biggest balls of them all..

Here are some highlights from the study's database:
Top Ranking State by Average Penis Size: New Hampshire
Lowest Ranking State by Average Penis Size: Wyoming

Top Ranking U.S. City by Average Penis Size: New Orleans
Second Highest Ranking City: Washington, D.C.

You're pulling my leg - or something.

TheyFit condoms, huh... might have to give these a try just to see the difference. But Dr. Vranich, suggesting they research who has the biggest balls? Come on. At least d**k size in this context has SOME purpose beyond the superficial. Now if Victoria's Secret were researching and posting maps on bra size, would I be encouraging it? Maybe. But that's beside the point... ;)

I find it funny that they did this study on size, and then didn't give any numbers as to average......some news report....

The range was between 3 and ten inches. Average size has remained the same: 5.5

This is really more than I needed to know. I am just glad to have one and could care less how I measure up to others.

Also interesting:
7 of the 10 "biggest" states are "Blue States"
6 of the 10 "smallest" states are "Red States"

So,
Not only are liberals smarter than conservatives

But
we're bigger too!

It just proves that people in blue states are bigger liars.

Thank you Huff Po...all I hear from men is about how huge they are..oh so enormous, anacondas...11, 12, 13 inches of love...Give me a break. Finally some research with some numbers where a guy can't fake it.
76 sizes, whew! I want three inches long with some girth thank you, even if it means moving to Detroit.

Wait, I can get made to fit condoms? This is brilliant!

Check out this article in Nursing TImes about how ill fitting condoms are more likely to break or hinder orgasm. It really is important stuff in the world of sexual health.

THIS MAP ROCKS! Put it up front! Why is it buried all the way at the end? I almost missed it.

The map is really great, isn't it? I also like maps that break information down visually. Though obviously this doesn't show trends really, it's interesting.

You gotta love this stuff. It's both funny and serious. With all the pressure on men to be big and get bigger, getting some info on what is normal, is kinda nice. Looks to me like the red states aren't doin' so good either...

From the article...

"Can I suggest a follow up study? Now that we know who has the biggest stick, I suggest finding out who really has the biggest balls of them all.."

I thought more highly of The Huffington Post.

The suggestion of a followup to this article with distribution by size of female genitalia was not acceptable as commentary.

There is clearly a sexist bias in this case.

This smells bogus. New Hampshire is #1 while its next door neighbor Maine is #41?

Let's see the data.

I doubt there was any serious methodology involved.

Sure, why not? Do you think size would change gradually from state to state?
See these three maps that are particularly interesting as well.

Size wouldn't necessarily be similar in states that are geographic neighbors, but you'd expect it to be similar in states with similar genetics... and in that category Maine is more similar to New Hampshire than just about any other state.

Ancestry data on the 2000 Census shows that both states are about 95% white... with about 15-20% Irish, 15-20% English, 13-15% French, 8-10% French Canadian and 7-9% German. In similar proportions, these five groups make up over two thirds of the population in both Maine and New Hampshire.

Of course the two states have differences as well, but given the strong similarities you'd expect that these states would at least be somewhere near each other in the rankings. Maybe #1 and #10, or #1 and #20. But not #1 and #41... that's a huge gap to explain. You should ask to see the data and calculate the margin of error.

This is definitely entertaining but please check the science!
