Poor Pat Buchanan. A failed political career born out of a platform that only appeals to other grumpy white men, Buchanan is stuck in an endless circle of self induced rage and irrational fear.
The MSNBC commentator actually believes being white in America puts you at a disadvantage, and feels a life dedicated to bemoaning 'reverse discrimination' and the rise of 'unqualified' minorities is an honorable use of his time.
Buchanan's projecting of his own massive insecurities and deeply held prejudices is painful to watch, and it is simply breath taking that no one at MSNBC wants to pull the plug on him. Exactly what is this man's appeal? The MSM's penchant for a tear up is one thing, but a man dedicated to furthering the cause of the white race is another.
Buchanan is technically right about discrimination -- it shouldn't be done to anyone, white, brown or black. But some historical context puts Buchanan's views in a completely different light.
I remember hearing a story from a friend (who is Jewish) about his German boss complaining to him that the German government was giving too much to the Jews. "It's those damn reparations for the Jews that is hurting Germany," he moaned. "Haven't they taken enough?"
When you consider the 6 million people the Germans managed to wipe out, there's not much the Jews couldn't take from Germany to make things right.
White Europeans committed perhaps the biggest genocide in history when they came to the Americas. The native population was literally wiped off the land to make way for white settlers, and for those who managed to survive, a few crumbs were passed off to them decades later for their troubles.
White people transported millions of African slaves to the United States, subjected them to horrific treatment, murder and cultural annihilation. Blacks have only been treated as equal citizens in America since the 1960's, and the notion that centuries of enslavement, degradation and economic disenfranchisement could be reversed in a few decades is just laughable.
Every minority in America has suffered at the hands of white people. It is a country founded by white people, built by white people and controlled by white people. To pretend otherwise is akin to holocaust denial. It is a fact.
For Pat Buchanan to suggest otherwise is disingenuous at best, and down right racist at worst. And the latter is probably the most likely.
Buchanan is part of a vocal minority that prey on white people's fear. In economically tumultuous times, people like him a particularly dangerous, as they lay the crimes of the wealthy on the backs of minorities. It's a dangerous game, and history tells us the consequence are often none too pretty.
There is a climate of fear gripping America as it comes to terms with its new self. There is a black man in the Oval office, an economic crisis unparalleled in magnitude for 80 years, foreign wars that are not being won, and a massive intellectual vacuum created by the corporate press (or lack thereof).
After years in power, the Right is unused to playing the role of the minority. They are coming out to bat, and they are pulling out every trick in the book. Buchanan is a cheerleader for the cause, flanked by Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. The embattled white man is angry, and he's not going to go down without a fight.
The talking points are as follows: Obama is responsible for the economic mess. It's about entitlements for minorities and socialism. Use the notion of reverse racism to explain the economic slump -- Latina women are taking jobs white people should have, just because they are Latina.
O'Reilly, Hannity and Beck aren't brave enough to say those things outright (they just imply them), but Buchanan is in a league of his own. When Barack Obama suggested that white America must do more to ensure blacks are treated equally, Buchanan responded with the following:
It is the same old con, the same old shakedown that black hustlers have been running since the Kerner Commission blamed the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark, Detroit and a hundred other cities on, as Nixon put it, "everybody but the rioters themselves."
There's no debating with ingrained racism like this. It's time for Pat to go, so please MSNBC, get him off the air. And do it now.

I dont know the sports announcer(keith) is pretty predictable and the woman who dresses in interesting fashion sort of assumes,to me at least, that there isnt any real hard political reality
Buchanan is original and thinks.
Thats getting more rare ever day.
No body can make the case against white people better than Pat does, White people need to do them selves a favor and disown him out right!
Love him or hate him, Pat is the only one over at MSNBC holding truth to power. Keith, Chris, Ed and Rach are still focused on past mistakes from the out-of-power party. We need the MSM to focus on the real threat to our future-like nuclear war with N. Korea.
"holding truth to power." WTF?
the right keeps telling the left to apologize for nothing! its them that owe and apology to the dems geeezzz!
He yells. The louder he yells the less he has to say. j
I wish Pat Buchanan would just go away. He's always "bragging" about "when I worked for Nixon", seemingly oblivious to the fact that Nixon was a criminal. Talk about revisionist history! Working for the Nixon would be one of the last things I would admit to. All of his "friends" went to jail while he himself remained free. What a guy, Pat. Way to pick 'em!
Bucannan is a racists who just can't and won't except a blackman as president. This is what happens to the klans when they see they have lost their grip on society. The people aren't buying their scare tactics anymore. I know bucannan and his good old boys are having nightmares right about now. But they won't give it up. I would bet they are working over time to get someone to hurt our president. I know that's something horrible to say, but it must be said. These are the same type that had Pres. Kennedy , Martin King, and Bobby Kennedy assinated. I feel it. I know they are planning something and they need to be watched closely. I say to the FBI, please keep our PRESIDENT safe, because I am from the south and I know how this good old boy network , works.
So when will all of them leave racism in our Past? When we let the fear and hate go, an the past!
I agree with everyting except the part about whites building America. Blacks built this country too with their blood, sweat and tears. They helped, whether they wanted to or not, they have contribted to this c ountry in ways tha white Americans have not even begin to acknowledge.
Agreed Neesy08. Much of America's wealth (and most imperial nations) has been built off the labor of immigrants, theft of other countries resources or slavery. I probably should have said that white people determined the direction of the building.
GOOD RESPONSE, I agree!
When Pat Buchanan pops up on the screen I change channels. I'm a middle aged, middle class white woman and the insane, racist, sexist, homophobic, paranoid hate speech that flows from his gaping pie-hole is enough to make my stomach turn and my blood pressure go through the roof.
A quote from Oliver Cromwell comes to mind - "You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"
Why don't you move to Zimbabwe?
Ok, be honest. You hate Buchanan because he challenges the Israelis. I am sure you think criticism of Israel is "anti-semitic" as well. Pat has his own opinions, which do not line up with the neo-con points of view. I enjoy Pat's sense of humor, though I do not always agree with him. But he is dead on when he talks about the absurd amount of power the Israeli lobby wields. It is a shame that we continue to let Israel box us in.
Why is it that anybody you disagree with should be fired? Personally, I like a discussion where-in all sides get their say. You on the other hand, want to listen only to people who agree with you. Intellectual laziness in the 1st degree!
I take it you've never read any of my articles SantaFrog. Here's one I wrote challenging Mitchell Bard's defense of the Israeli invasion of Gaza: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ben-cohen/mitchell-bard-is-wrong-on_b_156130.html
As you'll probably notice, I'm no Zionist.
Simple. It is much easier to go after Rev. Wright. If MSNBC were really smart, they'd give Rev. Wright a regular show and then whites could really lay claim to those ridiculous notions, made definite by the fact that the hiring of Rev. Wright would mean that some white male is out of a job.
Amen to this article. I am sick of listening to his whining and carping.
Yes, Lord. I've heard enough from Pat Buchanan for a lifetime. Why, in times when we need to hear as much factual information as possible does MSNBC put up with him? It can't be for balance, because he's never yet produced a reality-based opinion.
