The most horrific tragedy in American history occurred 11 years ago today. The terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington D.C. and in Pennsylvania echo the hatred for America's freedoms, but signaled the greatness of our nation.

I look at that day in this way: All of America standing together as one. Black, white, yellow, brown and green. Young and old. Political foes. Common enemies. We stood together as one like never before.

Let's not forget what is truly important.

The sacrifices that police officers, firefighters and EMTs made during that tragic day will not be dishonored. The sacrifices that men and women in uniform make every day will not go unnoticed.

Men and women in uniform do not serve for recognition, but to protect us and our nation. In spite of the many risks, they continue this service and their supportive families are at the foundation.

Today, I encourage you to celebrate the patriots of our area while we honor those who have fallen.
