The US Capitol dome and it's reflection are seen on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on December 29, 2012. As the fiscal cliff deadline looms, Congress and the White House have still not reached a compromise. If no deal is struck by December 31 at midnight, taxes will automatically go up on both high earners and the middle class, and across-the-board spending cuts will go into effect. Well it happened.

That circus called Congress has now successfully taken the wind out of a die-hard politically inclined young adult.

After watching the side shows and what was under the main tent during these recent "fiscal cliff" proceedings, I've seen a young adult who has been devoted to serving her country become very disillusioned.

How sad.

Yet, gentlemen and ladies of the 112th Congress of the United States of America, you've achieved a very disheartening unintended consequence -- you've begun to turn off America's bright hopes for the future -- our youth.

It wasn't enough that you discouraged so many of us older folks who did believe that serving our country should be an honorable profession.

You've now dashed the hopes and dreams of our children.

It is time to wake-up and operate as a functional, non-partisan body politic and set an example for our youth, all of our citizens and the world.

Well, what a novel thought.
