Two animal videos caught my attention this week, with very different outcomes for the humans involved.

In the first, a woman in Alaska thanks a bear for not bothering her kayak, but nevertheless attempts to pepper spray him in the face. She tells the bear, "Thank you for leaving my kayak alone. I'm going to pepper spray you in the face. That's what I am going to do to you." Then she attempts to do so.

This seemed a little passive/aggressive to me-- and apparently the bear too.

I suppose there are circumstances where it might be necessary to pepper spray a bear, but this one didn't think the gesture was just reward for leaving her kayak alone. So, in retaliation, the bear destroys her boat.

The woman screams, scolds, pleads, begs, and attempts to reason with the bear, all to no avail. Not once did the bear have the courtesy to even respond. He let his actions express his distain.

This bear was lucky this woman was a nice person. Had he encountered an unkind hunter, he might now be a bear-skin rug. And, at the end of the day, this former kayaker has this incredible piece of video that is far more valuable than the kayak.

The second video comes from the Bahamas, where a young lady's cell phone fell into the ocean. Well, not to fear, Flipper is here! A friendly dolphin dove down and rescued the cell phone for the stunned and grateful gal. What do you tip for a thing like that?

And my dog won't even play fetch with me.
