New Original Works Festival 2012

This year's three-week festival launches nine new original works by Los Angeles dance, theater, music and multimedia performing artists. Week one includes Poor Dog Group's "The Murder Ballad," Opera Povera's "To Valerie Solanas and Marilyn Monroe in Recognition of Their Desperation," and Susan Simpson's "Exhibit A." Tickets cost $18 and are available online.
Public Engagement Report

Mark Allen and Allison Agsten reunite to discuss the collaborative Machine Project/Hammer Museum report that concluded Machine Project's 2010 Public Engagement residency at the museum. The e-book offers a glimpse into the challenging first year of the museum's program with a roadmap from the museum and reflections from artists and Hammer staff. The conversation is moderated by Charlotte Cotton.

ForYourArt presents New. Artisanal. Now., a one-day food biennial. The pop-up shop showcases a variety of Los Angeles food crafters as selected by Krista Simmons (Top Chef Masters/LAist) along with Shawna Dawson (Artisanal LA) and Michaele Musel (The Secret Fork). The event features 12 local producers who will sell and sample their wares, libations presented by GreenBar Collective, special edition tote bags by Brian Roettinger, Hand Held Heart to benefit local food charity Food Forward, a reading table filled with artisanal food publications, and a DJ.

Hans Ulrich Obrist In Conversation With John Baldessari
Art Catalogues at LACMA (Miracle Mile)

Hans Ulrich Obrist will interview Baldessari to launch the L.A. artist's "John Baldessari Catalogue Raisonné Volume 1: 1956-1974" (Yale University Press), with a book signing to follow. The interview is a continuation of decades-long conversations between the two men, many of which were published in Volume 18 of Obrist's "The Conversation Series" (Walther König). To preorder signed copies of "John Baldessari Catalogue Raisonné Volume 1: 1956-1974" email artcatalogues@lacma.org; only copies of the book purchased at Art Catalogues will be signed.
