Liz Glynn: No Second Troy Catalogue Launch

Curated by Ciara Ennis at Pitzer Art Galleries, Pitzer College earlier this year, Liz Glynn: No Second Troy explored the discovery and legacy of Priam's Treasure, the importation of people and goods across the same border, the resulting contemporary cultural artifacts, and the hybridized identity that ensued. Featuring images from Glynn's videos, installations, and sculptural works, the catalogue also includes an interview between Machine Project Executive Director Mark Allen and Glynn, in addition to essays by Dean of the School of Art at Cal Arts Thomas Lawson and Director/Curator at Pitzer Art Galleries Ciara Ennis.

Mount Wilson Observatory (Mount Wilson)

This two day-long event and group show at the Mount Wilson Observatory will feature the work of more than thirty contemporary Los Angeles artists including Dani Tull, Norman Klein, and Louisa Van Leer. Pieces will explore ideas embodied by the observatory including astronomy, scientific discovery, space exploration, optics, recorded observation, and cosmology. The two day event will feature lectures, film screenings, music performances, and more.
Amanda Ross-Ho: Teeny Tiny Woman
MOCA Pacific Design Center (West Hollywood)

Opening day of a new collection by Los Angeles-based artist Amanda Ross-Ho. Created specifically for the MOCA Pacific Design Center, Teeny Tiny Woman explores Ross-Ho's ongoing engagement with translation, scale, and authentic and performed gestures through large-scale paintings, fabricated objects, textiles, and photographs within a custom architectural environment. Yearbook Signing Party
Hammer Museum (Westwood)

This free party will celebrate the newly released Hammer yearbook with food, drinks, and music. A Public Engagement project by Harrell Fletcher and Adam Moser, Yearbook is an artist book that captures a year at the museum through the vernacular of a high school yearbook. Participants in the project, including Hammer artists, public program participants, and staff will be on hand to autograph books, which will be on sale for $20.

Levitated Mass Public Dedication
LACMA (Miracle Mile)

LACMA CEO Michael Govan, LACMA board co-chair Terry Semel, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky will lead a public dedication ceremony to officially open LACMA's new permanent installation Levitated Mass by Michael Heizer. Attendees will be able to walk under this 340-ton boulder through a 456 foot long concrete slot that descends 15 feet deep with the granite megalith suspended overhead. Free museum admission from June 24 to July 1, 2012 for residents in zip codes along the boulder transport route.
