THURSDAY, JUNE 30
Art In the Parking Space
LAXART (Culver City)
7-9pm
The inaugural event for a new year-long project in which invited artists will create ephemeral artworks in parking spaces across Los Angeles. Each work will reflect different environments and sets of cultural parameters that define the Los Angeles basin. For the introductory event, artists Pierre Bismuth, Jonathan Monk, and Anita Pace will initiate the first interventions in the parking spaces surrounding LAXART.

The opening reception for a group exhibition featuring artists operating in a new millennium as friends, collaborators, and New York City artists. Artists include: Dan Colen, Terence Koh, Hanna Liden, Nate Lowman, Adam McEwen, Ryan McGinley, Agathe Snow, Dash Snow, and Aaron Young.

Friday Night Wine Tastings

Enjoy the Barnsdall Art Park with a tasting of four selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines from around the globe from Silverlake Wine. Tickets ($25) may be purchased online.

SATURDAY, JULY 2
Possible Worlds: Mario Ybarra, Jr., Karla Diaz, and Slanguage Studio Select from the Permanent Collections
LACMA (Mid-Wilshire)
11am-8pm
The opening day of a new exhibition by Mario Ybarra Jr. and Slanguage Studio, in collaboration with LACMA and Watts House Project. Following an artist's residency at the Garcia family's home in Watts, the exhibition considers the legacy of Simon Rodia and the impulse to create alternative or possible worlds out of unconventional materials or according to unorthodox impulses. Featuring assemblage, folk art, vernacular graphics, images of the Watts Towers, art from the LACMA collection selected by Ybarra and the Slanguage Studio, as well as a newly commissioned sculpture by Ybarra, the exhibition will connect the public art works done at the Watts residence with the LACMA campus.
