The League of Imaginary Scientists: The Zephyr Experiment

For their third and final Engagement Party, the League of Imaginary Scientists present The Zephyr Experiment, inviting museum visitors to join in a hands-on experience of invention and experimental wonder, centered around explorations of human flight and floatation.

FRIDAY, MARCH 4
Rodarte: States of Matter
Pacific Design Center (West Hollywood)

The opening day of the first West Coast museum exhibition featuring Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. Highlighting the designer's fashion and costume design through a series of interrelated conceptual vignettes, both static and in motion, the installation portrays garments as charged sculptural objects. Curated by Rebecca Morse, and designed by Alexandre de Betak, the exhibition features pieces from Rodarte's Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Fall 2008 runway collections, as well as original ballet costumes designed for the feature film Black Swan.

SATURDAY, MARCH 5
Schindler Lab: Round One
MAK Center (West Hollywood)

11am-6pm

As part of the Schindler Lab's ongoing series of local emerging artist and architect pairings, the MAK Center presents Olivia Booth and Thurman Grant in Round One. Booth and Grant engage a complementary use of glass and mirror in response to Schindler's existing use of the materials, redirecting the viewer's experience to the rhythmic structure of the house.

Geoffrey Farmer: Let's Make the Water Turn Black
REDCAT (Downtown)

The opening reception for Geoffrey Farmer's Let's Make the Water Turn Black, curated by Aram Moshayedi. The reception will feature the first public presentation of Farmer's sculpture play, as well as entrance to the central gallery space for the first time in the exhibition. Since mid-February, Farmer and his assembly of performers and mechanized objects have been working on-site(but out-of-sight) to create this new work, a response to the region's social history, and Los Angeles' influence on the counter-cultural movement.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9
Lecture: Wolfgang Tillmans
LACMA (Mid-Wilshire)

LACMA, in collaboration with the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, the USC Roski School of Fine Arts, and the Otis College of Art and Design, Fine Arts Deparment, presents a lecture with Wolfgang Tillmans. Known for his phtographs that appear casual, authentic, and immediate, Wolfgang Tillmans' work constantly shifts in scale and subject and explores the nature of the meidum. Embedded in contemporary culture, politics, and art history.

The Armory's auction and biennial fundraiser Off the Wall, returns with an evening of drinks, live music, strolling, and supper. Over 75 artworks by Southern California's most celebrated contemporary artists will be available through both a silent auction, and a live auction beginning at 8pm.
