Asco Artist-led Walkthrough: Gronk & Patssi Valdez
LACMA (Miracle Mile)

Two of the members of artist group Asco featured in LACMA's "Asco: Elite of the Obscure, A Retrospective, 1972-1987," Gronk and Patssi Valdez, will lead a tour of the exhibition. This event is free, but there is a limited number of spaces. Tickets are available at the box office an hour before the tour.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28

Young Literati 4th Annual Toast
Richard J. Riordan Central Library (Downtown)

Shepard Fairey and Rachel Small host the Young Literati's celebration of the 139-year history of the Los Angeles Public Library at the 4th Annual Toast. There will be music, drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and readings and performances by Russell Brand, Demetri Martin, Henry Rollins and more. The event costs $150 and tickets are available online.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29

Chuck Close
Blum & Poe (Culver City)

An exhibition of new paintings by New York-based artist Chuck Close. This exhibition will mark Close's first solo-presentation in Los Angeles in nearly 20 years. Other galleries in Culver City with openings include Blythe Projects, Taylor de Cordoba Gallery, Honor Fraser, JK Gallery, Kopeikin Gallery, Mark Moore Gallery, Roberts & Tilton, and China Art Objects.

Muse Costume Ball
LACMA (Miracle Mile)

Dress in your funerary best or a costume of your choice for a night of art, music, dancing, and the annual costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Tim Burton Character, Best Movie Monster, and Most Creative. The 'Tim Burton" exhibition is open late, and there will be performances by Killsonic, Jeremiah Red, and Sneaky Nietzsche, as well as environments created by Sypher Art Studios. Tim Burton Closing Weekend

In celebration of the final weekend of "Tim Burton," LACMA will be open extended hours, with parties, performances, and things to do all weekend long. LACMA will be open all night on Sunday and open until midnight on the last day: Monday, October 31.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2

An Evening With DeWain Valentine
The Getty Center (Brentwood)

Artist De Wain Valentine appears at the Getty Center for a discussion with conservation scientist Tom Learner on the challenges of making, conserving, and displaying his monumental polyester resin sculptures, including the recently conserved "Gray Column."
