Check out the reception this guy got at a hustings chaired by CNNs Wolfowitz:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYWWBwf2wHE

This was and still is the ONLY alternative to the creeping corporatocracy that is America, today; but you'll never get people like him given a platform to give his views adequately to the American people. He was silenced, as were Alan Grayson and Cynthia Mckinney before him. These people are poisonous to the corporate agenda, yet judging by Kucinich's reception, they deserve just as much air time with the American People as the astro-turf, corporate run Tea Party.

The imbalance is obvious. The Middle class is being squeezed to the point of non-existence and the burgeoning working classes don't have a voice..So they become disenchanted as well as effectively disenfranchised with the ever more draconian voting elegibility requiremets....and we end up with something like only 35% of those who can vote, actually doing so, whilst the rest of us actively simmer and seethe every time a suit jumps on the podium and bellows out about representing middle class interests and totally ignores us...

Not for long...This can't go on forever..

Hear Hear! F&F 757

In Washington today no one really takes responsibility for their actions. For the last 3 decades, very few politicians/leaders have been held accountable for the rotten things they’ve done to this country – financial crisis, the wars, housing crisis, tax cuts, NDAA, Patriot Act, torture etc.. It’s like we live in a fantasy world where certain companies and individuals take whatever they want and then leave the scene when things go sour.

The aftermath inevitably falls on the American people who have been duped and forsaken so many times by phony politicians and the MSM, they have all but tuned out. Special interests, lobbyists, ALEC, MIC and a whole host of other parasites have controlled the levers of government by pulling the strings of our elected officials. Common sense, reason and morality have been forsaken for power, greed and money.

Maybe in a different time, those people that pushed us into war(s) (called us unpatriotic and worse if we spoke out against it) would be held accountable for their actions. If the Conservatives and Neocons had to pay damages (civil and criminal) for their incompetence, we would have left years ago. Alas, holding people accountable is a fantasy, so America just moves on. Nothing here, just move along.

If we keep up these destructive ways, blithely moving along may not be possible in the future. At some point, something has got to give…

This is not surprising at all.  Obama is a Reagan Republican. A corporatist.  He's not really a liberal or Leftist at all.

Not liberal enough. Obama caves to Boehner, McConnell and other arch enemies of the people of the USA way too much. Obama seems unwilling to fight for what he says he believes in. The Republipunks have been working against the 99% of the population for three decades, and every time Obama caves to these enemies , he is working against the well being of America. A lot more confrontation and a lot less caving to the enemy should be the path for Obama if he wins re-election.

Not very liberal. I would put him next to Reagan.
09:13 AM on 04/20/2012
I naturally like and agree with this analysis because I have been saying the last 3 years and I remember both Eisenhower and Nixon and certainly Tricky Dick was a more liberal president than Obama but it must be said that the corruption of the political system has grown by leaps and bounds since Nixon and Obama appears quite at home with it despite making some mild symbolic protests against it.

Hear Hear!! F&F 1608

We elected a steward not a leader of our party – a person who will maintain the status quo for corporations/wealthy/Neocons, not for Main St. As a result, the Democratic constituents have to put up or shut up.

The American people are no longer part of the equation unless it comes to donations and donor time. If he wins again, I would expect more of the same as he tries to create his legacy. But now, the Republicans will be more emboldened and recalcitrant than ever. The vitriol/hatred from the Right-wing propaganda machine will only get louder and more intense. The media and the populace will of course blame him/Administration for their inactions.

A bully doesn’t back down until you put them in their place. This Administration needs to fight for their principles and call out the Republicans on a daily basis for undermining our Democracy. But that will never happen. Instead, the Democrats will be farther marginalized and demonized by their opponents.

All I know is that he's a disappointment but there is no other alternative. Even if Romney becomes POTUS, he may be prefereable to O since he might be more recepetive to Dems and Indies assuming they hold the majority in the Congress.
08:54 AM on 04/20/2012
Well, these are conclusions. But do you have any reasons why you came to them? I can't for the life of me imagine why you'd see Romney as in anyway preferable if you've been disappointed with the President.

The most logical reason is because Romney was able to work with Democrats as Governor or Mass. He had to, it was Massachusetts! Obama can *blame* Republican obstructionism all he wants, but the truth of the matter is, he went in guns a'blazing, feeling that he had a mandate. He told Republicans right from the start that he was driving now and we needed to stay in the seat and keep quiet. Then he forgot the economy and rammed Obamacare down everyone's throats.

It's impressive to be progressive
05:44 AM on 04/20/2012
What makes Obama's conservative presidency more upsetting is that after 8 years of Bush, it's plain to the world how utter nonsense the Republican ideologies are. They say cut the tax and money will trickle down. It never did. They say they'll protect us because they are good for national security. Bush botched the info leading to 911, then started and botched two very expensive wars. They claim to be deficit hawks, yet deficit skyrocketed. Instead of repudiating their nonsense, Obama went along with Bush tax cuts, made deals with banks and pharma, and doubled down on the civil liberty assault. How can anyone sane govern from the center right after the plainly evident failures of the right? It makes me question whether he's really a liberal or progressive to begin with.
08:24 AM on 04/20/2012
Agree 100%.
09:00 AM on 04/20/2012
So you prefer some (likely unelectable) ineffectual liberal ideologue to a President who seeks and uses the power he actually can to move us in directions that are more rational, more sustainable and less intolerant? We could use a wee bit more perspective here, don't you think?

He's not a slow learner, just a decent man who is trying to be the President of all people, instead of being the President of just "some"....it's too bad that his efforts are seen as being "not enough" by his enemies, and too much by his supporters...sad indeed.

What should a person say in their micro-bio
07:31 AM on 04/20/2012
Listen Denise - this nation is in a crisis. It was in a crisis when he got elected. THE ONLY REASON he got nominated as a Democrat over far more experienced Democrats was because he gave the impression that he actually wanted to confront the old system and change it. THAT WAS HIS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE. When Obama tried to alter that approach and become a conventional President he lost many supporters. He was NOT elected to take a middle of the road approach.

Honestly, Hillary Clinton or other candidates would have been better suited for this typical Democratic Presidential approach because of their experience. If Obama wasn't willing to lead a government toward considerable change then he should be called on it.

He was not elected to continue many of GW Bush policies. People have a right to demand accountability from the people they vote for - especially the Democratic base.

I'm a progressive, I always have been, but some of my progressive brethren are beginning to annoy. The country has been moving to the right for the past 30 years. It's so far to the right now that Barry Goldwater would be considered a card carrying Communist. Given that situation up front, just what would you have President Obama do? It's our fault. We allowed this state of affairs to happen, and were too d*** lazy to get involved and prevent it. As an aggregate we voted in the current absolutely awful congress. We were cowardly after 911, and traded Constitutional principles for safety, and allowed our civil liberties to be taken away by the most un American gang of thugs and third raters ever to govern. Instead of looking for a man on a horse, and throwing the President under the bus for trying to get SOMETHING done, direct your anger and frustration at the conservative movement in the United States, where it belongs. That will require solidarity, and a shared vision. So far it's been like herding cats. Time to get real, or it won't matter how principled and correct you are.
03:29 AM on 04/20/2012
your problem is that liberals will all sit around, waiting for the free lunch, but won't DO anything and won't PAY for anything.

Where do you folks get these talking points nonsense from??? Always stating that liberals do not work---what a bunch of bull that you do not even believe yourself....please stop lying...if liberals did not work, your RED states would not be able to get the federal aid that they get..far more "LIBERALS" work everyday, labor jobs than Repugs...your side has the people who want those of us who do manual labor to work for $2.00 an our so that they can continue to live the rich life...it takes a Republican to have a simple mindset, ome that believes that Democrats and Liberal do not work...what utter silliness...

We work for fair wages. We supported the minimum wage. We supported the 40 hour work week. We supported holidays. We supported doing away with child labor. We supported safe workplaces. We supported workers rights to bargain in the workplace. We supported Medicare to provide working people with a decent retirement and reduced senior poverty by 60%. If you benefit from any of these, thank a liberal. If you think they are free lunches then please don't participate. Go back to the 1800's and work in a sweat shop with your kids while trying to provide for them and your parents 7 days a week 18 hours a day and hope you aren't disabled in a work accident

It may be true that the overall trend for the past 30 years the country has moved to the right, but it's certainly not true the last few years. To put it more precisely, Washington has moved massively to the right and hasn't looked back. The overwhelming majority of the country is in favor of tax the rich, cut the military, end the tax subsidies and loopholes, legalize gay marriage and medical pot - all progressive positions. Why aren't the politicians moved along? Because they are more addicted to the money, which until now is still the best venue to get elected. If anything, I'd say the country is more ignorant than on the conservative side.

You are absolutely right.

Tea Partiers, Supreme Court, Citizens United, think-tanks, a biased media and the Koch Brothers create a dominant radical right wing machine. They have moles and tentacles in every facet of our government trying to break it down to suit their needs.

"The USA will move so far to the right you won't recognize it"- Ed Meese, former US Atty Gen for and career-long confidante to Ronald Reagan, front man for the cabal that mainstreamed fascism in America.

Meese, tragically, was entirely correct.

In this context, we can see that the "ultra-liberal" or "socialist" current president is actually a Nixon Republican.

Remember Nixon? The guy who founded the EPA, opened relations with China - and had to be dragged out of illegal wars in southeast Asia?

Sound familiar?

If you follow it back far enough the cabal began in the rat lines out of the fallen Reich and gained ascendancy in 1968. After Iran/Contra they became part of the fabric of government. It will take decades of active vigilance to shake their influence from high places. And we have been so lax in our watch few even know what they are looking at.
