Dr Bob Thursday Night College Analysis

The Virginia Tech offense is outstanding, averaging 6.9 yards per play with starting QB Tyrod Taylor in the game, and the Hokies should have no trouble moving the ball in this game against a sub-par Georgia Tech defense.

I'm now 32-21-1 on my College Best Bets for the season and I have 5 College Best Bets for Saturday at drbobsports.com. I also have Free Analysis on 44 College and 10 NFL games.

I don't have a Best Bet on tonight's ESPN game, but I do have an opinion on which side is best to take.

VIRGINIA TECH (-13) 38 Georgia Tech 21

Virginia Tech started the season with a devastating 30-33 loss to Boise State that led to a shocking 16-21 loss to James Madison on short rest just six days later. The Hokies obviously were still dwelling on their loss to Boise when they played James Madison, but they successfully refocused themselves and have won and covered the spread in six consecutive games entering tonight. The Virginia Tech offense is outstanding, averaging 6.9 yards per play with starting QB Tyrod Taylor in the game (against teams that would allow 5.4 yppl), and the Hokies should have no trouble moving the ball in this game against a sub-par Georgia Tech defense that's given up 5.5 yppl to teams that would combine to average just 5.0 yppl against an average defense. Georgia Tech's option attack, meanwhile, matches up pretty well with a Virginia Tech stop unit that defends the pass extremely well (which doesn't really matter against the Yellow Jackets) but has given up 5.5 yards per rushing play this season. My math model favors Virginia Tech by 16 ½ points and Thursday night home favorites of two points or more on a winning streak are 46-21-1 ATS. I like the Hokies in this one.

I will have free analysis of 10 NFL games and 44 College games this weekend (posted at 3 pm Pacific on Thursday) in the Free Analysis section of my website.
