Sometimes I can't help myself, and I do the worst thing imaginable in modern society. I read comments online. Worse -- I read them about myself and the movies I make. I'm not proud, but I have found there are some recurring themes about me and my new movie God Bless America that I'd like to address.
The first thing I found out is that is that I am a dirty kike, which is really shocking to read. Not just because I am a goy (but now seriously contemplating converting if it pisses this many inbred hillbillies off), but because there is so much anti-Semitic white trash who feel free to post hate speech as long as they can cower behind the anonymous screen names. The next revelation was that I am a brainwashed 'libtard' from 'Hollyweird' that will do anything for money. Now to be fair, I starred in Hot to Trot, was a regular square on the new Hollywood Squares, and was recently the voice of a talking fruitcake for Walmart. So clearly I will do a lot of things for money. But that is not the case with this movie, or any of the movies that I write and direct.
I make my movies on very small budgets FAR outside of the system and I am not trying to appeal to everyone. Hell, I'm not even trying to appeal to anyone outside of my actual house, but I've been lucky enough to find an audience. If you're horrified by my movies, then... well... fine. I mean sorry, but this isn't an elementary school talent show. I'm not trying to please you. I'm just telling a story.
I get really bored by people who are angry at Hollywood because they feel they don't see their personal values reflected in every single movie and television show. Hollywood is a really big place (well, the business of it is, the city is actually very walkable). And Hollywood makes a lot of different products, expressing a lot of different views. It's filled with all kinds of people with all kinds of beliefs. I mean, we crazy libtards let Ronald Reagan, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood have pretty good runs out here despite their crazy beliefs. And lets not forget that Michael Moore was booed at the Oscars for speaking out against the war. That didn't sound like the roar of approval from a group of lefties to me. But remember commenters -- you should blame Hollywood for what's wrong with the U.S. as often as possible. That way you don't have to change anything about yourselves.
Another comment I get is that I'm a racist because no one of color gets killed in the movie. Let the irony of that sink in for a moment before I continue. I'm racist for not killing black or Hispanic people. It's funny, but it's also not true. Maybe the people who comment on that have only seen the trailer, but I assure you that I respect all races, and that we kill the entire reading rainbow of color in this movie.
I guess I should quickly add in that God Bless America is about a guy diagnosed with a brain tumor who is pushed over the edge by what he sees as our culture of cruelty, so he decides to kill people who 'aren't nice'. It really doesn't have much of political base. Yet it has been described as 'leftist snuff porn' on some of the more extreme conservative sites. I have no idea what these creeps get into online late at night in their basements, but I can't imagine anyone getting too turned on while watching this. You're gross for even thinking that.
Many conservative sites call this movie anti-Christian because a group of Westboro Baptist-types get shot and run over. That's ridiculous, because The Westboro Baptists have nothing to do with the teachings of Christ. They use the Bible the same way Kim Kardashian uses her ass -- they just hold it out there so they can stay famous.
The last comment that keeps turning up is that this movie will inspire copycats and should be banned. I hope people are inspired by the movie. I hope that they watch it and get the message. But the message is not, "Hey you should kill people." Only idiots would watch it and take that away. And if anyone goes and shoots someone because they saw this movie, even money says any episode of The Golden Girls would have had the same result. Because they are crazy. If you could take rational people and turn them into killers by showing them movies, the military would be in the business of producing films. And if we're going to start banning violent works of fiction because we're afraid of how they may influence people, well we should start with the Bible.
This is a violent movie, but it's a violent movie about kindness. If people were a little more kind after watching this movie I'd be happy. I'm not going to hold my breath, but a little part of me hopes for copycats. I hope people do what Frank and Roxy do when they turn away from TMZ and Fox News and Twitter long enough to get to know each other, and talk to each other, and get mad about some things, but ultimately I hope people become kinder. Because that's what this movie is about, even if we do shoot a baby in it.
