This song is called "Native New Yorker," from my new album Potato Hole. The idea was to paint a picture of a post 9/11 New Yorker, born and raised, who knew the pain but was moving ahead with pride, a nice suit, and playing air guitar with a smile and some attitude.
Neil Young, who plays guitar on this track, had an instant understanding of where we were going with this one. The only thing to work out was the structure. Then he just looked at me through the studio glass and we played.

Booker T!!!! Man. Great new sound. I been grooving to the MGs since '62. Still do. It is so good to have some new music from you. Have a great time trucking with the Truckers this summer. And if I may add a plea, can you promise not another 20 year wait for the next album?
Thank you, Booker T., for a lifetime of incredible music, and my favorite album of the year thus far! The musicians (Neil Young and the Drive-By Truckers) really compliment the funky sound, and I love the production - sparse, gritty, clean.
Right now my favorite tracks are "Pound It Out" and the excellant version of "Hey Ya." I hope you'll be touring on this one!
And... that's an album to purchase.
Neil, yes. Way to go Booker T.
Always inspiring. Thank you Booker T. and Niel.
Thanks Booker T. !! You're still funky as hell & it's really good to hear you jamming with the great Neil Young.
I love the sound of a Hammond and a Gibson together.
A couple of old-timers, keepin' it simple and workin' it out. It's on my playlist right before Joan Osborne's "Hallelujah In The City." There may never be another instrumental in the Top 40 (hell, is there still a Top 40?), but there oughta be! Thanks, Booker and Neil -- I've been listening to both you guys for over 40 years and I don't plan to stop now. Or ever.
Going to buy it right now. Still listen to Soul Dressing... a lot. Been with you from the beginning. What a treat!
Thank you Booker T.!
On 9/11, my friend came by and we both went to give blood.
I think we've given enough by now...
Oh man... it's Booker T.!!!
Great song. What a treat.
Thanks.
I much prefer Odyssey's.
