charles lane raised a troubling [to me anyhow!] question in his column in today's post:
"Oh, and how are you supposed to resell your electric vehicle once you’ve driven it five years and the battery is depleted?"

The cost?? Installation?? It appears its still a reasonable chunk of change---maybe a few grand???
Nice little surtax when you want to buy a used Volt, Leaf, etc!

People said the same thing when hybrids hit the market. But in fact, batteries have lasted much longer than anyone expected, and resale values on hybrids are superior, in most cases, to standard cars.

Likewise the few full EVs that have been on the market already - the Toyota RAV4 EV, and Ranger EV from 10 years ago. These cars have enjoyed very good resale values.

The battery technology in today's electric cars are warranted for 100,000 miles / 8 years and could wind up lasting twice that long.
