David and Charles Koch, the billionaire brothers bankrolling the front groups behind the Tea Party and climate denial movement, have added another "cause" to their philanthropic endeavors, donating $1 million to the Proposition 23 fight to kill California's landmark 2006 climate change legislation.

Koch subsidiary Flint Hills Resources LP handled the laundry duties on this one, but the directive surely came from the heads of the Kochtopus empire -- billionaires David and Charles Koch.

The Kochs have found themselves under an uncomfortable spotlight lately after a thorough investigation by the New Yorker revealed the brothers' extensive funding of a network of groups that catapulted the "grassroots" Tea Party into play, as well as their financial backing of a sprawling network of climate denier groups that makes even ExxonMobil blush.

The Los Angeles Times blog "Greenspace" first reported Flint Hills Resources donation towards the Proposition 23 bill last night, noting that the effort was launched by two other oil industry players, Texas-based refinery companies Valero Energy and Tesoro Corp.

The Kochs have lost much of the anonymity they enjoyed over the past several decades in the political world. Ever since David Koch's disastrous performance in the 1980 elections when he bought his way onto the Libertarian Party's ticket as vice presidential candidate -- a ticket that earned only one percent of the vote -- the Kochs have stayed below the radar for the most part.

Until recently, David was better known in New York social circles for his charitable donations to the arts and humanities, while Charles focused on running Koch Industries with an iron fist.  But since the New Yorker piece and a report by Greenpeace in March documenting the Kochs' support for the climate denial machine, the brothers can do little without receiving massive media attention.

As the world looks more closely, it seems the Kochs have their hands in all sorts of anti-democratic pies, and now we know that undermining California voters' choice to confront climate change is among them.

Wonder where else the Koch brothers' influence will pop up this election cycle? Stay tuned as more tentacles of the Kochtopus emerge into the sunshine.

Think this is an outrage? Then don't buy Georgia Pacific Paper products (Dixie Cups, Brawny Towels, etc) which the Koch brothers also own!

Republican billionaires are trying to buy elections and American politics.

They are spending some of the big tax break they got from Bush.

Big money in politics.

Democrats need to speak up and not let the big money buy our Democracy.

If our government did not de-regulate everything in favor of the wealthy robber barons we would be able to put a stop to this. We were sold to the highest bidders regardless if it was in our best interests or not. What have we gotten for this? We are now suffering with mega pollution, lower quality of food and contamination of our food and water sources, poorer education and healthcare and more. For what? So that a few fat cats can get fatter. What is their contribution for the greater good? Bill Gates is trying to cure Malaria at the same time he is also working hard with Monsanto to grow gmo crops in Africa that have been proving to be harmful to organic life? Where is the voice of reason here? Money shouldn't be able to buy anything without being scrutinized for safety and long term outcomes. If we begin thinking about long term outcomes and see where we're going before we get there we will have a better chance of surviving these gross mistakes. Where is the voice of reason here? Can we change or are we doomed to watching as bad people make our choices for us?

Koch Brothers Donate $1 Million To Overturn California Law
We wrote a few days ago about how the Koch brothers are the astroturfers behind the Tea Party. Associated Press is reporting today that the Koch brothers have donated $1 million to the campaign for Proposition 23, an effort to have California’s greenhouse gas emissions law (AB32) revoked. [...]

The brothers Koch are the embodiment of all that is wrong in corporate circles, the epitome of what I call corporate fascism, the kind of corporatism that attempts, and too often succeeds, to buy its way into political office and is concerned with deregulation of their vested interests, as well as trying to have existing laws ( that hinder their profit making ) changed and new laws ( that make them unaccountable ) brought in. The "third worlding" of America and many other nation states in the developed world is a prime example of their Machiavellian ways and subterfuge, their political intrigues and the way they give funding and succour to media demagogues and political hopefuls in order to further their sinister agenda. The new dark-age is what their agenda really is, an age when we all become serfs and slaves, with no recourse to the law and no mechanism for meaningful political change, the road to total fascist control, of the state, of the people, and especially the resources. The human race is about to realise the age of sever-to-catastrophic resource-decline and these would-be-emperors of the new dark-age are determined to eradicate any sort of opposition to their ever-increasing hegemony.Corporations of all countries are dividing up the resource-rich areas of the world and consolidating their grip on the political processes of everywhere that they have interests, war is their tool, freedom stands in their way, what price freedom ?

this is why the free market ideology is bull. it is a fantasy made up by corporations to dupe folks into voting against their best interests.

Out of state corporate interests are truly afraid of the advances we are making here in CA, and see it as the battleground for their futures in energy developing and manufacturing.

The KOCH brothers are out for themselves and themselves alone! Big Oil pays no tax's due to the hugh subsidies they get in the US. Despite protests they are afraid of clean energy and a level playing field. We need to use this as our rallying cry-Big Corp tax breaks vs small business and the middle class. They are funding scare tactics at the people but we can use the truth as our rallying cry at the rally in Washington on Oct 2. People need to know they are being ripped off by the wealthy who send jobs overseas.

Two brothers who became successful by standing on the shoulders of the middle class, are now taking every step possible to ensure there are no regulations in place to protect the middle class..

They started out with a huge inheritence. That usually helps one become successful.
