After Dorothy Hamill's untimely departure from the show, "Dancing with the Stars" was in need of this week's feel-good prom theme. All of the stars donned their high school best for the "night to remember," but which of the memorable routines will go down in "DWTS" history? And which ones would be better left forgotten?
The Dance of the Night:
Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough: Kellie and Derek took the cake last night with their "Footloose" inspired jive. Kellie's quick movements had Bruno calling her "sharper than a Samurai sword" and Len declaring her to be the queen of the prom. Score: 25
The Standouts:
Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff: Jacoby's natural swag came in handy for his sensual rumba with Karina. "You were smoldering like a volcano!" Bruno exclaimed. Even Len, who was clearly searching for negative feedback for the NFL star, could only say he was "shocked" by the performance. Score: 24
Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy:After starting off the competition with a bang, expectations were high for Zendaya, but her emotional Viennese Waltz, dedicated to her grandmother, lived up to her hype. Bruno called it enchanting and Carrie Ann spoke of her enormous potential, saying "the best is yet to come." Score: 24
The Good:
Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas: Aly and Mark took on a very prom-appropriate Viennese Waltz that had all of the judges singing their praises. Len got in the spirit of April Fool's Day, telling the couple he was "unimpressed" (what a jokester!) and Bruno complimented Aly on her ability to express herself. Score: 23
Victor Ortiz and Lindsay Arnold: Victor, who was in the Bottom 2 last week, had his work cut out for him to prove his place in the competition. The lift-filled contemporary routine shocked all of the judges, with Carrie Ann and Bruno declaring him to be a true dancer and Len going as far as to say, "I was pleasantly surprised." Score: 23
Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson: Ingo and Kym performed a scandalous paso doble, with bad boy Ingo swooping in and capturing the prom queen from the big dance. The judges loved his attitude, but still thought his technique could use a little work. Score: 21
Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko: After landing in the Bottom 2 last week, Lisa was desperate to redeem herself. Her graceful Viennese Waltz grabbed the attention of all three judges, with Bruno calling the performance glamorous and gorgeous. Score: 21
Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd: Sean and Peta, decked out as the Village People, took on the ultimate overplayed prom classic, "Y.M.C.A." Len declared the entertaining number to be Sean's best performance yet and Bruno applauded his gusto. Score: 21
The Mediocre:
Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess: Former Homecoming King Andy Dick was right at home with the prom theme, delivering a truly entertaining cha cha. After ripping his shirt off at the end of the routine, the judges all agreed on his commitment to the performance, applauding him for his effort. Score: 18
The Bad:
DL Hughley and Cheryl Burke: DL Hughley's salsa routine didn't quite redeem his poor performances in the past, with Len and Bruno both attacking him for his lack of musicality. Carrie Ann, however, noticed his effort and baby steps, telling him that improvement is what the competition is all about. Score: 16
Wynonna Judd and Tony Dovolani: Although they went all out with costumes and song choice ("Pour Some Sugar On Me"), Wynonna and Tony's stiff samba didn't captivate the judges. Len about summed the performance up, saying, "You look magnificent, but you don't move." Score: 15
