Flying should be the most exciting experience.

For thousands of years human beings have dreamed of being able to fly. Yet in just over 100 years since the Wright brothers first took off at Kitty Hawk, taking to the sky has become an everyday occurrence. There seems nothing special any more about powered flight.

In my book Inflight Science, I uncover that sense of wonder that children still have about flying and that we should all feel. How can being 40,000 feet up in the sky, traveling at over 500 miles per hour, be anything other than amazing?

Traveling by plane offers a unique opportunity to see the world, and science, in a different way. There's hardly any other experience where science is so important, so central to what we're doing. It's time to stop being blasé and to open our eyes to the amazing reality of flight.
