What <i>Game of Thrones</i> Can Teach Us About the Syrian Refugee Crisis

If you're not familiar with Game of Thrones here's the gist. There's a zombie apocalypse coming. The humans build a wall to keep the zombies out, but in doing so, block out an entirely different group of humans, who are now stuck with the zombies. The catch is, when the zombies attack, everyone they kill turns into zombies. So if the two populations of humans don't unite to annihilate the zombies, the zombies will no doubt annihilate the world.

If you're not familiar with the Syrian refugee crisis here's the gist. Millions of innocent people have been displaced by civil war and terrorism. Extremists are imposing their lifestyle on the civilians around them -- and by imposing their lifestyle I mean radicalizing them and murdering anyone who resists. It's the worst humanitarian crisis since WWII and if nations like the United States don't embrace Syrian refugees, the terrorist army will only grow larger, and its death count, more horrific.

The point is, we can't do this alone. When our enemy strikes, we need as many people on our side as we can get, regardless of which language they speak and religion they practice. The single worst mistake we can make is to turn our backs on the very people who can help us prevail. That's exactly what our enemy wants.
