19 Romantic Wedding Dresses Inspired by Camila Alves

For the climactic moment of their star-studded, three-day wedding celebration, Camila Alves donned a long-sleeved lace gown (Kate Middleton, anyone?) to wed actor Matthew McConaughey at their home in Texas. Alves told People she first met her dress designer, 78-year-old Ducarmo Catelo Branco, as a young girl in her native Brazil. "I guess you can say she has been planning this design for over 20 years," the model said. Alves flew to Brazil for just one day of fittings before she "left and just had to trust them." The Duchess of Cambridge's dress was lovely, but women have been wearing lace on their wedding day for centuries. Can we please stop crediting this young woman with a "trend" that never really went out of style? There are so many different kinds of dresses to choose from and every woman needs a dress that suits her personality and the wedding itself. Sometimes lace works and sometimes it doesn'.

I think it is so wonderful to see dresses with sleeves that are "modest" yet somehow so sexy. Katherine Middleton rebooted the trend, I think...not Camila Alves...though her gown was extremely beautiful as well.

I am so liberal and forward thinking in so many ways, but if I ever do get married (I just broke up with someone after 7 years so I am in that "I am never going to meet anyone else" mindset), I want traditional. Tradition IS why one gets married after all...right?

I would wear my grandmother's dress if it was still around (because it was during WWII, women shared dresses, and she never got it back from who she lent it to). She got it at Kleinfeld's in the 1940s...and it still remains one of the most beautiful gowns I have ever seen...

Thank goodness they didn't feature those horrible STRAPLESS things. A wedding dress should not look like a PROM dress and nowadays ALL of them are strapless.. Uggh. These look more fitting and apt. for a wedding, given the religious and respect for the institution. Not some horrific prom like thing.

Where have they been hiding these? The only dresses I've seen on the rack are strapless. What's worse is that the Mother-of-the-Bride dresses are also strapless. I can't begin to tell you how hard it was to find an appropriate dress as the Mother of the Bride.

Amen! My daughter got married four weeks ago, and all of the dresses were either horridly matronly, or were only appropriate for a size 2 twenty four year old. I LOVED my dress from Tadashi Shoji. He knows how to dress a real woman.

Those are lovely. So much nicer and more appropriate than so many I've seen recently. When did bare shoulders become "acceptable" in a church wedding? So many look to me like a white cocktail dress with a train attached. I hope this is a trend.

I remember bare shoulders since the '80s at least - so get used to this 30-year-old 'trend'. Many older women I know have commented that they wished their dresses hadn't been so button-up. My own Vera dress (that I bought this week) is strapless, very princess-y and extremely tasteful.
