BYU Students Against Cheney?

Tonight I witnessed one of the surest signs that the American people of all political stripes, regions and religions are moving away from the policies of the Bush administration.

I attended a meeting organized by students and faculty of Brigham Young University to express their outrage and concern and plans for protest over the invitation to Dick Cheney to speak at their graduation next month.

In a letter detailing their opposition to Cheney's visit to their campus that resides in the most conservative county in the country, four BYU faculty members wrote the following:

"In our estimation, Vice President Cheney does not embody the ideals taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints nor Brigham Young University. Inviting Cheney ... violates long-standing LDS Church and BYU policies regarding political neutrality and sanctions the actions of a prominent political figure who demonstrates questionable ethics."

Be encouraged.

This is coming out of one of the most conservative colleges in one of the most conservative states in the Union. If this isn't proof positive that the temperature is dropping for the Bush administration, I don't know what is.
