I'm a big fan of the holiday spirit this time of year. 2014 has been a difficult year for many, and it's time to ratchet down the drama and truly value our friends and family. There are so many reasons I love this time of year. For one thing, kindness is tops on every agenda no matter what your religious background is. I like to reflect on how kind we can be to each other -- instead of attacking one another to purchase the latest, coolest item to impress our friends.

Another reason I love this time of year is that it's all about the spirit of giving. For once, giving is the focus -- not receiving. Giving is my favorite thing to do; it creates a warm and wonderful feeling inside when you see how much a thoughtful gift touches someone. I'd so much rather give than receive, to be quite honest. There is nothing like the smile on a child's face -- (whether they are three or 23!) -- when you hit exactly the right note with their gift.

This holiday I plan to take some time to reflect on the year gone by and what I want to accomplish next year. I will use the quiet, peaceful time before the New Year begins to luxuriate in the quiet. Winter is a time to go within, to journal, to reflect and examine our lives. Where we've been as well as where we're going. It's all a journey.

Peace on Earth, Good Will to All.
