Ann Coulter vs. Sarah Palin

Posted: 01/06/11 10:18 AM ET

I recently interviewed Chris Barron of GOProud, a gay conservative organization that believes that the Republican Party is welcoming of gay Americans. The issue was that some prominent conservative organizations were boycotting the largest conservative conference in the country because they allowed GOProud to attend. Seems very welcoming.

The interview was heated (you can see it here). I think it is absurd to vote Republican if you're gay. The party ran their whole campaign against gay Americans in 2004 and 2006 -- and bragged about it. The GOP just overwhelmingly voted against repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell. And there are only a million other examples of how Republicans are against every gay rights issue. Of course a gay person can be conservative on economic issues or on foreign policy, but to say you're going to vote for a party that hates you is beyond irrational.

Well, apparently Ann Coulter doesn't agree. She watched the interview, then tweeted:

Great video: head of GOProud interviewed by retarded person on MSNBC - http://bit.ly/h1mvwqless than a minute ago via web

Though I'm flattered that Ann thought it was a great video, there seems to be another issue here. Coulter called me a "retarded person." Now, I am not the least bit bothered by that. In fact, I am greatly amused at Coulter challenging anyone else's intelligence or cognitive abilities. But I do know someone who should be steaming mad about this -- Sarah Palin.

I thought Sarah Palin had banned the R-word. Palin called for Rahm Emaunel to be fired when he used that word and added:

Just as we'd be appalled if any public figure of Rahm's stature ever used the "N-word" or other such inappropriate language, Rahm's slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities -- and the people who love them -- is unacceptable, and it's heartbreaking.

Does that mean Sarah Palin also thinks Ann Coulter should be fired? Does Ann Coulter have a job she can be fired from? What does Ann Coulter do with her life? Come to think of it, what does Sarah Palin do? More importantly, how will these ladies settle this?

Does Sarah Palin think that the word is less "unacceptable" or "heartbreaking" when a Republican uses it? Or is she just as outraged by Coulter as she was by Emanuel? I mean, Sarah Palin wouldn't be enough of hypocrite to attack a Democrat over the word but not a Republican, right? I look forward to her response.

Haha, awesome point, Cenk.

I look forward to her response, too. Ann Coulter can't open her mouth (or her tweets) without spewing something toxic. She appears to be the most hateful human being (???) in the news today and she has plenty of competition. However, since Sarah is the most hypocritical, I am sure she will give Ann a pass.

Is $arah even aware that @nn exists? Do they exist in the same universe?

Every time I think we have reached the maximum limit of stupidity in the universe, I see a Tweet.

This past week Republicans refused to vote for a Democrating amendment that if Obamacare is repealed those members of Congress voting for repeal would no longer be eligible for the government health care program provided members of Congress and would be forced to obtain private health insurance just like regular Americans - so much for the inundation of Tea Party emails upon which the Democratic amendment was apparently based.

Dear Cenk:
When it comes to these two women (Sarah and Ann) UP is DOWN; RIGHT is LEFT; BLACK is WHITE; you get the gist. It is an alternate universe. And apparently, since Sarah MUST have been aware of Ann's rant, she gave her a 'pass'. Rahm Emmanuel, she responded to immediately. Ann Coulter? One of us, didn't notice it. That's MY take. Could be wrong. Maybe Sarah was too caught up in defending herself in last Wednesday's 'rant'. I'm SURE we'll find out eventually.

Don't hold your breath. Sarah Plain, like Ann Coulter save their outrage for Democrats. They have never heard a Republican say anything wrong or use inappropriate language.

Sarah Palin should always be grateful for Ann Coulter, the one person who can make her look like a person of depth and fairness.

Rham made his remark in reference to an act, not as an insult aimed at an individual as ACr did. The word retarded is often used in reference to something that is deficient in one way or another.
06:56 PM on 01/20/2011
Which means exactly what? The fact that the word, initially a description of developmentally delayed people, is used in reference to something that is deficient ... d'uh. What has that got to do with ANYthing under discussion?

Sarah Palin believes in Sarah Palin, nothing else matters

What I find funny is that she wrote "great video" when Uygur nailed it.

Wouldn't it have been better to ignore these "ladies", rather than give them more attention than they deserve? Someone has to take the High Road when it comes to crazy!

Hypocrisy works both ways, doesn't it? It is hypocritical to have given obama a pass, rahm a pass, and now get so upset with coulter.

Where was the outrage from the liberals over obama's extremely insulting Special Olympics comment?

Oh yeah, there were only excuses and explanations.

I find all such comments repugnant. I do not listen to coulter, and this will not change that fact.

I love how people use the excuse of Obama..Obama.. Obama.
We are talking about one Republican's stand.. Palin, against a Democrat, who then is silent when one of her own, a Republican, says the same thing in the same context.

No one is upset. he says specifically he could care less. He is just a wondering where Sarah, defended of all God's creatures is and why she is silent.

They are masters at deflecting attention away from the issue at hand, aren't they?

Stay on point. Palin was outraged when a democrat used the "r" word. Now she's silent when a republican uses the word even more directly (Rahm said people were acting retarded, Coulter said someone is retarded). Your Obama example isn't even close to the same! We are not outraged Coulter used the word retard, as you suggest. Please apply your critical thinking skills - this is an easy one - even for you I'm sure!
