Michael Moore: There's Going to Be a Second Crash (And Glenn Beck Can F--k Off)

What's Your Reaction:

We interviewed Michael Moore on The Young Turks today and he was not shy about sharing his opinions. Anyone surprised? He had very strong words for the Democratic Party, the state of our political system and Glenn Beck.

What he thinks of Democrats and Republicans:

You know, I tell you, these Democrats are disgusting. Wimps and wusses and weasels. You know, get some spine. This is why I have to admire the Republicans. They at least stand for something. They at least have the courage of their convictions. They get elected to office, they come into town, and they go "Get outta my way, there's a new sheriff in town. This is the way we're doing things. Get outta here." And then they do it. You know. I mean what they do is crazy. But dammit, they are good at it. We should take a page out of their book.

Can we fix the broken political and economic system in America?

It's not going to get fixed. There's going to be another crash. The commercial real estate bubble hasn't burst yet. That's going to burst. The credit card debt is so huge right now, it will never be repaid. That's a house of cards waiting to fall. So the crash of '08 is going to look like coming attractions. And we're in for a much, much worse time.

What he would have said to Glenn Beck if he was in Van Jones' place:

Fuck off! That's what I would have said. But again, you mentioned Glenn Beck, and of course, he's the guy that's called for my removal from the planet Earth, so...

There's one thing you know about Michael Moore, he's going to come strong. Unfortunately, I share his pessimism about the system. But I believe there is hope at the end of that tunnel. And as corny as it sounds, that hope is with the American people. We have to stop letting corporate interests buy our politicians and government officials. Make a change.

Michael Moore is right...Demare too concerned with power to do anything. they fear re election like no other party, Republican don;t give a hoot about being re elected they stand on their principles and let the voters decide,

Americans need and respect strong leadership and principled leaders who do their will regardless of their own position or re election possibilities.....yet they get re elected while weak Dems are one termers...

Ahh yes, Michael Moore, the multi-millionaire, non-union hiring, private jet and limo riding liberal "man of the people" is now an economics expert.
05:51 PM on 03/08/2010
Do you really need to be an economics expert to make the assertions he did? I think anyone with a certain level of intelligence can look at this f*cked up mess and realize it's only about to get worse.
08:17 PM on 03/07/2010
WHat he doesn't understand is that they are on the same side, dems and repubs...its all a show.

Welcome to Choose Your Favorite Bully.

It's sort of like Avatar isn't it? We each have our favorite bully to cheer as they duke it out in a public arena?
Or, is it more like Gladiator?

Historical analogies can be so difficult.
08:19 PM on 03/08/2010
Yes, but your comment contains no such thing.

Rather, it illustrates handily, America's preoccupation with teevee and drama as supposedly representing real life. Let's be clear: to confuse stories with reality in your reasoning, is perhaps the best way known, to reach false conclusions.

That is sooo funny. the Republicans own the demorats right now. THey can steer them any way they want. And Glenn Beck is on the top of his game! I love to see liberals complain right now. It is a crack up! Sarah Palin even owns the dems....ha ha hahahahahahahah

It's time for me to issue my own doomsday prediction to you all...from 2002 until 2008 I posted my satire on Unconfirmed Sources- sometimes twice, three times a day- until George W.Bush was finally replaced by Barack Obama. i thought my job was done and spent the last year writing the Great American Unpublished Novel. Now that's done and I find myself with time on my hands.

So, if the Democratic Party doesn't get it's act together as Mr. Moore suggests, I'm going to start writing again. Every day. So forget economic ruin, forget the Pee Party...uh, Tea Party...forget Mosad hit teams or a commercial housing bubble; what I'm threatening to do is far, far worse. On any given day you'll find yourselves (since I know how to manipulate Google News logrithym, even if I can't spell it) inadvertantly exposed to satire so bad you'll be wishing that some Chinese hacker will just kill the web for good.

So, if you want to avoid poor puns and petty political punditry from the Left, get your acts together. You've been warned.
08:24 PM on 03/08/2010
So stop threatening, and start writing!

BUT remember: unlabeled satire is just lies and noise. Label it so it will not be ignored, and add to the general dissatisfaction with the faulty reportage we see far too much of.

So, where were all of you people since the 1960's? We all yelled and screamed that there was only one party in this country (the military industrial complex and the rich) and that corporations controlled the whole thing. We also argued about how they exploited the races and liked to cause different groups to be divided against each other. Millions of people have had to make a living in the underground market and in response they built cells for 8 million people. They can't afford welfare but they can afford millions of police, guards, prisons, parole officers, etc. Now they are conditioning us for black military police units with police dogs that knock our doors down and take people away. Now they are supporting 6 million in that program of prisons with most people there for drug offenses. They can't afford anything that helps the people, but if it is some pie in the sky system where they can make billions then they are all for it. They screamed for years that the wages are too high, but have they tried to compete against Chinese companies. No, they are there trying to take them over so that they can do the same thing. That is partly what this downturn is about, they want the Chinese to start failing and turning their companies over to the ones in other countries. Why was nothing done about all of the political complaining that came out of the 1960's?

Its been a continual process (political campaigning and activism). That's why such an effort was made behind the Obama campaign - because the ideas and illusions of change and reform will always be an alluring concept for Americans.

The repub's created the status quo.Of course they want it.

Business creates jobs.
Loss of business, looses jobs.

It's been easy for the current breed of Republicans to act tough -- their own agenda is in concert with what the corporates want, since most of the GOP are basically corporatists (this may change if the tea partiers actually persist with their vision, but most of them are likely to be snowballed by typical GOP posturing -- Mitt Romney, indeed). But many of the Democrats are conflicted between a liberal social agenda, which is generally supported by labor and litigation interests, and the capitalistic interests of their posse of corporate sponsors .
11:58 PM on 03/06/2010
Michael Moore is venting to the choir. He is right about the Republicans and getting the job done according to their agenda. The democrats have a harder time because of the liberals in the party.
The liberals want to fundamentally change America and that's not going to happen yet. I hope never as this nation will become a cesspool. I went the liberal movement during Woodstock but grew up and got smart, became an independent conservative. Michael Moore is right about the second wave coming. I suspect there will many suicides in the streets will the untold billions lost. All Obama has done is blow smoke up all our asses. The banks are doing what they did before and commercial restate is going to crash hard. Obama has left everyone wondering what the hell is he going to do with jobs, and so, companies re still holding back. Fanny and Freedie are going to crash and real soon. Thank you Barney Frank. Obama has sold us down the river with all his back room deals.

The words sound great but no action.

In Greece or Iran and even in China when the people are being screwed they pour into the streets and bring down those who act against them.

Here in America we sit in front of our TV's and Computers and blah, blah, blah.

I'm seventy years old but I'm ready to start some action.
02:55 AM on 03/06/2010
Hope...what hope? Americans and people prone to liking America are too bent on being positive.

All the energy spent on "being positive" (whatever that is) could be well-spent on accepting life as it is.

Then, perchance, the delusion would give way to some real action on how to deal with a broken

system.

Michael Moore's right on-target. That other shoe is just hanging there by a thread.

There's going to be a whole lot of "strategic defaults" this year, on both the commercial and home mortgage fronts.

We the people need to push Obama to release his inner FDR, or we are SOL.

The democrats had it all. They lost their spine and fell apart. No right wing plot. No conservative plot. The dems screwed up and wimped out .They have nobody to blame but themselves. Pelosi screwed up and REid also. Stop blaming Fox news, tea parties,Rush etc. They did not control congress. They did not control the Senate. They did not control the White House. They do not control MSNBC.They do not control the NY Times. The dems had it and lost it all in ONE YEAR. Start asking the dem leadership for accountablity and stop blaming.

"They lost their spine"?

They never had a spine to begin with, they leverage our anger at the current system to get elected. The Dem's are doing what they have to do to stay in power, Get the Lobbyist Money.

If there is any failure to put blame on, its the vast majority of rational Americans who didn't stand up and fight for real reform.

We are to blame.

Most Americans are under the illusion that we have a "democratic system", in which the majority controls the destiny of this country. The fact is, the US is not a "democracy" but as a "polyarchy": a system of elite decision and periodic public ratification. Corporate America actually maintains control of this country, otherwise, why is it 25 million Americans are either underemployed or unemployed? Or why are more than 47 million Americans are without health insurance? Or why is it, individual Americans pay the bulk of the federal income tax, while most corporates pay none at all? If democracy actually worked in this country, then we should not have any of these problems!

We have a nineteenth century economic system of Capitalism, based on a feudalistic class structure, makes indentured servants out of everyone who is not of a privileged class. It is a very predatory system. The privileged class, (Corporate America, the Elites, and the Banks), undermine our form of government, by maintaining control of it through their hired lobbiests, and thereby control our national agendas in Washington. Consequently, their profit motives have undermined the welfare of our nation, threaten to bankrupt our government, and every U.S. citizen for generations to come. They have done little to invest their wealth back into this country. I wouldn't put any stock in either Democrats or Republicans, because neither party is going to fix our economic and political systems.

I agree with Mike Moore. At least the Republicans are united and stay on message. The Dems - let them be damned this Autumn elections - because they don't know how to exercise power. My message to the Dems is: Don't take the word "democracy" too literary. Bipartisanship is dead, get over it. Exercise your power and do things that are good for the American people. Don't worry about the polls. Just do things that are good for the people and you will be rewarded. If you don't know how to exercise power, the GOP will show you how, when they seize power after November.

I hope President Obama will read the riot act to his fellow Dems. But I am not holding my breathe!
12:30 AM on 03/06/2010
Who's going to "read the riot act" to Obama? Rahm???
