All he can do is his best. President Obama's best try is the only chance we have from complete demise. We cannot rewrite history on the fly by equating the collapse in the economy to his administration. All we can say was he was the one to try and salvage would he could.
Bush was the last gasp of the oil economy. Likewise, Obama will have to contend with the last gasps of the old economy that will fight mercilessly so it is very likely that change will not take hold for two terms or more. Obama will pave the way for a world with more economic justice - the essential precursor to world peace.
Obama's massive spending package will guarantee us 10 years of another Great Depression. He's driving this nation off a cliff with his huge budget deficits. We'll be a 3rd world country by the time Obama's term is done.
Time to take a history lesson buddy. It was FDR's "massive spending" that got us out of the Great Depression. When FDR tried to balance the budget in 1937, that's when the economy went back into recession. As far as being a third world country, the past 8 years pretty much accomplished that. If you look at the facts the disparity of wealth and assets in the US between the richest 5% and everyone else is about the same as you find in many third world countries. Got facts?
Obama isn't the one driving us off a cliff. Bush left the car parked on the rim, wheels hanging over the edge and Obama's left trying to back it off. And did the previous poster actually use the word "deficit" like a weapon? Silly word to reach for under the circumstances.
I have extraordinary patience knowing that we have the person and the intelligence that we will need to find our way out of this morass. I second this notion by the realization that our government, at all levels, our industry at all levels, is emergining from a self-centered, power driven love affair with itself the likes of which has not been since the twenties. I also realized that not only government but the people themselves need to remake themselves out the 20's type. Credit card debt, Ram trucks, macho purchases of houses etc. have driven too many to riding a considerable mad pursuit. We have just experienced the Yuppy version of the Lost Generation again. And this will take a lot of immediate hardship to reverse. That is why real programs aimed at work and concrete building must take precedent over a stimulus package that merely sends out checks. We, as citizens, must begin to think about our lives, our choices, our children and our grandchildren and put ourselves and the fragile ego on the back burner. I'm willing to share the pain as well as the hope to achieve lasting and laudable results. Go Obama.
From what the media reports, the public expects immediate results. My experience in the real world is that people--across the board--are aware that we have been left, essentially, in economic freefall and it will take time to turn it around. They want, not miracles or quick fixes or platitudes, but a sure and real way out of this, and the assurance that the president is honestly working on our behalf. This nonsense about how we want instant results feels, to me, like more neocon attempts at brain.washing the public.
I don't Axe from what I hear and read most expect instant results and the smart ones can only afford to wait 4 or 5 months to see whether Obama and the Congressional Democrats want to restore a Legitimate Federal Government or not. before deciding to cut their losses.
I missed this last night. Hubby had dibs on the tv and Jon Stewart won. (No complaints - it's Jon.) But thank you for posting the video whoever at Huffpo is responsible for doling out the treats.

Well said.

Yeah, the media expects immediate results because otherwise they have to do actual reporting instead of driving made-up narratives.

I have a crush on Axelrod.
With all do respect, Americans don't have a lot of patience.
