As the race between the leading Democratic candidates intensifies, author John Grisham spoke to me tonight about why he feels Hillary Clinton is the right person to be president. We also talked about the publication of his 21st book, The Appeal, which marks his return to the legal thriller genre after a three year reprieve.
The entire conversation will be broadcast tonight on your local PBS station. You can see it tomorrow on the Charlie Rose website.

Hillary/McCain 2008
Now there's a ticket the fascist neo-cons would love!
Does anyone realize that blind partisanship is ridiculous? Does anyone realize that in waving your party flags and uncritically accepting everything that your so called party leaders and representatives shove down your throat is why this country is in the mess that it is?
Newsflash, no politician believes that his constituents are the rank and file of America.
They dupe us with these big election shows, but at the end of the day they know who butters their bread and it ain't the civilian population.
They let us bicker back and forth while they both display the same behavior.
At least have the decency to be an informed idiot.
If you think that there's a real difference between a Democrat and a Republican, I hope the Kool-Aid has ice cubes.
It infuriates me that the so-called intelligent, progressive people on this blog display no critical thought.
And lastly, who cares what John Grisham thinks anyway? About ANYTHING?
Charlie,
Your show is becoming to look like a Hillary promotional show. First, it was a full hour of distortion and smear by Bill Clinton and now another show featuring an ardent supporter of Hillary.
In the spirit of fairness can you interview few people who support Obama's candidacy? One name will be Professor Lawrence Tribe of Harvard who knows Obama up close and who can inform us a little more.
I hope you will hear our voice, Charlie.
Thanks.
According to the Florida Department of State, Senator McCain received 36.2 percent of the Republican primary vote or 659,796 total votes. The Florida vote has placed him on the front page of the NYT and he is being proclaimed the front-runner for the Republican nomination because of these results, not only because of the delegate votes gained but especially, for the symbollism and momentum. Mrs. Clinton received 49.7 percent of the Democratic vote or 811,611 total votes, more than the combined number of votes received by her two closest opponents, Senator Obama (532,942) and former Senator John Edwards (238,652). Mrs. Clinton's win is seen as meaningless by some owing to the DNC agreement, and without even symbolic meaning attached. Oh, and the NYT reported this on page A16, bottom left-hand column.
We mustn't forget that McCain has been a strong supporter of President Bush's failed policies. I consider McCain a politician who does not put party loyalty over America's interests at home and abroad, but here it lies the issue why he should not be elected: he would continue to take this country on the path to other wars since he believes in shooting first, and making an investigation afterwards. Preemptively attacking sovereign nations based on false and made up intelligence is a crime that I believe McCain would engage in, believing he was serving our interests.
Hillary did not endorse the war with, and occupation of Iraq. She was, together with most of the Congress and the American population, duped by Bush and his team (Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz). I wished she would confront this issue and make known that if elected, she would spearhead an investigation and prosecution of those who lead us into this ill-conceived war with Iraq. Washington has made a mess of people's lives in Iraq and, by God, someone must be held accountable for so much misery and death.
over 1.7 million democrats voted in florida! as a proud american and a proud floridian i am proud to have cast my vote for hillary clinton. the margin of victory was huge. the canidates may have not been here in person, but we watched, we listened and we made the rt choice! HILLARY 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!
for a better america, and a better world!
John Grisham made his fortune writing highly entertaining novels about fictional lawyers. The typical Grisham hero is a lawyer who fights for truth and justice at great personal cost to himself and his family. I have personally never met a real life lawyer in the Grisham mode. My experience with lawyers, even fundamentally honest ones, is that their primary concern is generating billable hours or collecting high percentage contingency fees. While a heroic Grishamesque lawyer may exist somewhere, it is certainly not Hillary Clinton, who was a corporate lawyer that used her husband's role as Governor to secure positions on the Boards of Directors of companies like Walmart. Maybe the fiction writer in Mr. Grisham appreciates Hillary's carefully constructed "novel" of her 35 years of political experience. But the real Hillary Clinton is closer to one of Mr. Grisham's opportunistic antagonists.
As former Senator John Edwards withdraws from the Presidential Race, Hillary Clinton is going make the difference clear to all Americans.

Wake up folks! All the in-fighting going on is not going to do us any good. Keep your eyes on the prize: November 2008!
Clinton/Obama in '08!
Now that's a winning ticket!
HIllary hasn't shown that she has the judgment to be president. She voted to give the dumbest president in history the power to start an unjustified war of preemption.
McCain's a war monger - do you want to carry on with the Bush nonsense?
Do you want to continue to live in fear?
Time to put Republicans in the penalty box for a very long time.
Obama obsession is getting scary.
Obama's candidcy is fundementaly about his race. That is the great appeal. That we have reached the day in this country that we can elect a black man. That is what is meant when he says "they said this day would never come".
I just heard Kerry say on MSMBC this morning what an impact it would have around the world if we elected an Afrcan-American.
Yes it would be a great symbol but that is not enough reason to elect a president. I think he's black enough but he is also too green.
The right is going label this as liberial affirmative action by Ted Kenndy.
I believe Hillary will be the nominee (not my first choice). 2 major things that need attention from 8 years of Bush. Our world standing and the structures and foundations inside our country. So, maybe a Hillary (fix inside the US)-Barack (fix outside the US) combo could work. I have been and am disgusted with Bill. Can I swallow my anger and disgust and vote for Hillary in November? Dunno....
Grisham can't get the facts of life, law and reality straight in his books. You might as well be endorsed by the Easter Bunny.
Looks like McCain is on his way winning the nomination, he is of course the media darling. I always think there is a disconnect in the media with the real candidate and what they want to tell us.
Among the democrats, we have three very strong candidates, I am for Hillary from the begining, for her strength and her able to work on both sides of the isle.
That does nor diminish Obama and Edwards, at this late stage any combination is good.
Party needs to get away from petty fights and UNITE to win the White House.
Watched Grisham on Bill Moyers and need to find your show on NPT.
