Like most students embarking on their final few years of college, I found myself toiling over one question for quite some time; where should I study abroad and why? After weighing several different options I caved and reluctantly picked a location hoping for the best.
Fortunately for me, my laissez faire method worked in my favor, resulting in a cultural experience of a lifetime. Though there are a number of incredible spots to choose from, no single location is for everyone. With that in mind, I aim to assist future young travelers by providing the following; a list of five top study abroad destinations (in no particular order):

A great place to reward your palate, some of the best food I have tried thus far resides in Spain. My favorite dish; a freshly made frittata. For those of you practicing the Spanish language, what better way to put it to use than fully immersing yourself. The locals tend to be friendly, and more than willing to assist with any phrases you may unknowingly butcher.
Explore the Chinese Dynasties up close and take in centuries of rich history. Must sees marvels include The Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Summer Palace, Suzhou Garden, and the Forbidden City. If you're feeling adventurous, consider trying the bold street food. A surprisingly good eat is their assortment of deep fried bugs. For those who would like to stick with traditional Chinese dishes, the food will not disappoint as they are both delicious and much healthier than American Chinese food.
Enjoy study time (for the first time) by taking your textbooks to a gorgeous display of sandy white beaches. Discover Sydney, a metropolitan city bursting with life that provides an active social scene, plentiful surf, and magnificent landmarks. The average locals are polite and friendly, and will allow you to feel right at home. Even an introvert may find themselves stepping out of their comfort zone to experience in full what Australia has to offer.
Known for its beauty, Italy is home to a variety of breathtaking sites - Venice, Rome, Florence, Milan, Naples, and Verona to name a few. The delectable cuisine is plentiful, with quality restaurants and cafes at every turn. I highly suggest you visit the markets - the fragrant produce will awaken your taste buds and may even inspire you to whip up a dish of your own.
With a number of destinations that vary in culture and demeanor, the UK is an extraordinary place to travel and find your niche. The historic cities, castles, and ruins are incomparable, as they are the number one magnet for most foreign travelers. With no language barrier, students are able to travel with ease and chat with locals to uncover any hidden gems.
