It is here our story begins. Entry 4

Nat, Mia and I flew to Phuket arriving at The Chava Resort about 2AM after 25 hours of air travel. Julie booked for us what I thought were a couple of rooms. The cost seemed prohibitive, so I booked us a couple of rooms at The Doubletree Phuket, next door.

Continued from entry 3

Nat, Mia and I flew to Phuket arriving at The Chava Resort about 2AM after 25 hours of air travel. Julie booked for us what I thought were a couple of rooms. The cost seemed prohibitive, so I booked us a couple of rooms at The Doubletree Phuket, next door. A driver met us and I told him to take us to The Doubletree, he concurred but said he was to take us to the Chava Resort, and so he did. A very sleepy Peter, the manager of the resort met us and led us to a beautiful 2 room apartment with deck, washer-dryer and every amenity. We were given a rock bottom rate so I canceled the Doubletree. We fell into bed and were awakened the next day by Julie telling us we had to be at the Thalang Police Department to sign the accident report and to collect Josh's belongings from the motorbike.
As we walked in, Tarn and her assistant Ant walked out. I had not met Tarn before and I rushed out to say hello but they had already gone. We were at the police station for 5-6 hours. Julie was with us the entire time. She acts as our interpreter. We are told even though there were witnesses to the accident (more about that later), saying Josh was run off the road, the police say the accident was his fault, but out of the kindness of their hearts the tour bus company is willing to give us approximately $100US for our pain and suffering, all I have to do is sign here.....I refuse and Julie tells me apparently the bus company has already paid off the police. There will be no investigation. We spend hours and hours just sitting around while reports are hand written, and then handwritten again. I am presented with Josh's belongings. I opened the plastic bag and find his cell phone, a crazy bejeweled lighter, his Pursol sunglasses, his wallet, some baht and change and a small square package that looks like baby powder. My daughter glances over at me and puts her hand over mine as if to comfort me....we got up and walked to the front of the office where my daughter tells me this is what cocaine looks like. Why haven't the police confiscated this? If they are so corrupt why have they not taken his sunglasses, his cell phone....I am told by Julie later that to remove the possessions from a dead body is an act of very bad karma and most definitely asking for wrath from Big Buddha himself. After many hours of sitting in this hot suffocating office, while report after report is written and witnessed and written again we are finally able to leave the Thalang Police Dept. and go back to the hotel. l have brought the book, Proof of Heaven written by Eben Alexander MD, a neurosurgeon's journey into the Afterlife with me on this trip.
I bring it to the pool of the most beautiful resort of the most beautiful place, Phuket, in total misery and read. Later that night with Josh's wallet under my pillow I pray that he will come to me. I am here for you Joshy, I am here for you now. I am comforted by the words of Proof of Heaven; "In dying one has an overwhelming sense of God's love and forgiveness; intense peace and beauty and no desire to return to earth." I hope this is true.
The next morning I lay in bed listening to the sound of the birds in Phuket, all the sounds Josh must have heard when he awoke. I slept fitfully. All sorts of things are racing through my mind. One of A's friends, known as Lady Man, (yep) has posted a picture of Christian naked on fb. I am appalled and tell her to take it down. I am sure the baby is being exploited, not even sure the baby is Josh's. Where did those ears come from? Must remember to look at A's ears. I have brilliant ideas as sleep eludes me: Ask Tarn for help in keeping baby, make her Godmother, give baby to her 1-2 months out of year so he will know his Thai roots. Must tell Mia. Take wallet out from under pillow-too much energy emitting from wallet-why can't I sleep?

The next day starts with Thai coffee by the pool. We are to go to Josh's house today and meet A and the baby. And we have to go to the hospital and get hair from Josh for the DNA test to prove that Christian is Josh's son. I want to see Josh. I am told that it is not a good idea. But I insist. I wish I had listened.
