Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 5, Episode 6 of CBS' "The Good Wife," titled "The Next Day."
There was no way "The Good Wife" could have kept up the breakneck pace of last week's phenomenal "Hitting The Fan," and "The Next Day" gave us something a little different. It's war between Lockhart/Gardner and Florrick/Agos & Associates and we learned this week that not every battle will be epic.
"Have a nice day." The episode started with everybody waking up after the events of last week's episode. Alicia overslept, Diane worried about her final case (and looked glamorous) and Will spent time with some tattooed and weird woman. He ended up getting a tattoo with her and making out a lot. Will's new-found passion for destroying the others and making Lockhart/Gardner tops is translating to new areas.
The case of the week involved defective guns, but the main meat of the episode was the volley back and forth between the two firms. The client went to Alicia and her new firm and ditched Lockhart/Gardner, but Will and Diane didn't give up easily. They sent Alicia and Co. rats, redacted documents and did everything in their power not to make it easy for Alicia and Cary. To combat all this, Alicia took them to the board that suspended and almost disbarred Will.
Will and Alicia know each other like the palm of their hand. Two very formidable generals leading the battles and it makes for excellent TV.
In the end, the client went back to Lockhart/Gardner and Diane was successful ... at least in court. Diane learned Peter was vetting new candidates for the Supreme Court spot. She was devastated, to say the least. Christine Baranski is giving such a great performance this season. It's truly awesome. Give her the Emmy now. When she said "Have a nice day" to Alicia -- it was amazing.
"Bill and Hillary on steroids." Marilyn -- who is pregnant, so no more hints that Peter is into her? -- fished around Florrick/Agos & Associates to see about Peter's role in securing Chum Hum. Ethical boundaries will clearly be the theme of Peter's upcoming storyline.
"The Next Day" was a good episode. It felt like the day after hearty drinking. There's a hangover, but you can still be productive.

Grace being into guns was ... interesting. Are all Alicia's associates kind of pervs? Grace is 16.
"I'm through being polite." - Diane. She's staying at Lockhart/Gardner and is going to be great. Will and Diane together are always enjoyable.
"The Good Wife" airs Sundays, 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
