The cultural pastime of sharing memes has garnered quite a few headlines lately. Conservative Stephen Harper was snapped making a funny hand gesture that quickly became a meme, a former pro baseball player and broadcaster was suspended from ESPN for Tweeting a Nazi meme, the biopic Straight Outta Compton had so many memes People Magazine posted the best ones, and @thefatjewish (aka Josh Ostrovksy) was signed to CAA and then torn apart by mad comics and the media. And the VMAs had Instagram on fire with Kanye 2020 memes.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, you should. Here's a crash course on what I think are becoming the comics of the digital age...Memes: an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by non-genetic means, especially imitation; a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc. that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users. Usually a picture, comic or GIF with text and witty commentary.
