There is a rising tide of anger in America -- voters who refuse to sit down and shut up. We are millions of pro-immigrant Americans who are fighting for reform and refuse to be intimidated by cynical attempts to tap into our frustration that change didn't happen fast enough. Today we speak out with our Latino brothers and sisters targeted by the despicable "don't vote" campaign to say that voter suppression of any kind is un-American and must be rejected.

By now you've heard that a GOP-linked voter suppression ad is being run by a group calling itself Latinos for Reform. Its anti-Obama ad implores Latinos to skip voting in congressional races. Does anyone really think DREAM Act kids and immigration advocates paid money to run these ads claiming to support reform? Please. Upon seeing the ad here on HuffPost, I called up America's iconic Latina for Reform, Dolores Huerta, to get her response.

In an email, Huerta -- the president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation for Community Organizing and co-founder of the United Farm Workers -- had this to say:

The Republicans are at it again; continuing their attack against the Latino Community. They outsourced our jobs and tried to stop health care. Republicans support SB 1070 Arizona's racial profiling law and oppose the Dream Act, Immigration Reform, and minimum wages.

Now the Republicans want to increase their political power and hurt our communities more by ASKING US NOT TO VOTE IN THESE MIDTERM ELECTIONS. If we do not vote, Republicans win.

We will not fall into this deceptive trap of no representation by the so called "Latinos for Reform". This latest Republican ploy only motivates us to work harder to make sure every eligible Latino voter will organize others to vote for the Democrats, the candidates that stand up for Latinos and Justice for our families. Our Vote is Our Voice. Si Se Puede!

Signed, Dolores Huerta, president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation for Community Organizing and co-founder of the United Farm Workers; titles for identification purposes only

If the GOP thought they could intimidate Latinos, they failed, as pro-immigrant Americans refuse to sit down and shut up. As Dolores Huerta stated, their suppression tactics only motivate Latinos and their allies to fight harder. The GOP's cynical effort will boomerang as millions of pro-immigrant Americans reject the suppression, stand up, speak out, and vote.

It isn't working anymore Ms Pelosi. Your half truths, distortions and flat out lies on ILLEGAL immigration does not ring true with the vast majority of Americans.

Your mother and her usurpers of the Constitution refuse to do what is mandated in the document in 'providing for the common defense' the most horrifying of all, the POTUS dividing the country last night with his 'punishing the enemy' speech to the latino base.

Do you hear that America, President Obama thinks you are the Enemy if you:

-Want him to follow his Constitutional duty and protect the nation from illegal immigration.
-Want the legislature to balance the budget and reduce spending.
-Want the government to stay out of your personal lives.

There is no end to the dis_dain that this man and the entire Democrat party has for you. The choice can be no more clear. Vote for the continued prosperity of the country or vote for its destruction by voting Democrat. Clear as a bell.....crystal clear.

George Lopez has a good response to Republicans in his Tall, Dark, and Chicano sold out show of 14,000 Latinos in San Antonio.
This was just after 31 Republicans disrespected Sonia Sotomayor, including doing Ricky Ricardo speel to HER FACE, "you got some 'splainin' to do."

The anger (since AZ SB1070, calls for repeal of the 14th Amendment, 14 states planning to deny Latino infants birth certificates, EVERY Republican Senator voting against the Dream Act, and now this vomitous voter suppression ad).....is 1000-fold.

EVERY Republican candidate should be forced by reporters to denounce this rancid ugly ad aimed at Latinos and voter suppression.

They say ..."DON'T VOTE"
We say...."We Will NOT Comply"

More from Latinos For Reform:

AD text as translated by NPR:

“Barack Obama a friend of the Latino community? The record demonstrates the opposite. Did you know that after the 2000 census that showed a tremendous growth of Latinos in Chicago, Obama told reporters in Chicago that while everyone agrees that the Hispanic population has grown, they cannot expand by taking power from the African-American community. You heard right...but there's more. Did you know that Obama has never hired a Latino to a senior position in his office throughout his legislative career? Did you know that Obama has opposed trade with Mexico, Central America and Colombia, yet supports free trade with Africa?”

Let us be honest for once. The only reason we do not deport all of them is because it costs too much, $24'000.00 a pop. 24'000.00 x 12'000'000 = $288'000'000'000.00 (this is a low estimate).

The legal ones should vote, the illegals one are breaking the law and should be punished along with their employers. We should make the employers of illegal immigrant pay in full plus a fine for their deportation, that would create some new government jobs !

All the brouhaha about not voting etc. is just political window dressing as usual.

They also think Latinos look like Asians. If a stated agenda of dismantling the greatest government ever established, doing away with Medicare, social security and public education-so the rich can have more money to buy elections-doesn't get our attention, maybe their not so thinly veiled insults might spark a little voter anger?

By Jeremy P. Jacobs

So-called "Wal-Mart Moms" -- women who have children under 18 and shop at Wal-Mart at least once a month -- are breaking solidly Republican this year, according to polling out Tuesday.

Can one be Pro-Immigrant without being Pro-Illegal-Immigrant?

For instance, I am Pro-Immigration and Pro-Securing-the-Border.

- Open-borders advocates
- Amnesty advocates
- The La Raza HS teacher in SoCal who encouraged his students to rise up and take back what is Mexico's
- The people who lost their minds when some kids dared to wear an American Flag shirt on Cinco de Mayo
- The 12-20 million who are in-country already

Unless...am I misreading their motive? Are those people actually opposed to illegal immigration?
05:02 PM on 10/19/2010
Hahaha.

Obviously, this news is false.

I've never met one Republican in my entire life who knew how to say in Spanish "Sit down and shut up".

More like "Otro margarita Julio Por fa-vor-o, chop, chop"...

I really think this Ad will end up having the opposite effect. I think it will mobilize turnout by a nevada community that will now feel directly assaulted by the republican machine.

Telling a proud people what to do can easily backfire.

The GOP just keeps sinking lower and lower. They are willing to subvert elections for their own gain. Very nice. They really care about the democratic process.

Federally funded partnerships such as the 287(g) program, Secure Communities and other ICE policies designed to marginalize and repress immigrant families and communities. Many of these policies are in the hands of President Obama and Homeland Security Secretary, and Former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano; they can end the nightmare immediately.

I don't think Secure Communities is designed to 'marginalize and repress immigrant families'.

I was under the impression that it is to be used to alert ICE about people who are in violation of immigration law.

Immigration is a federal responsibility. At least...that was the argument used against SB1070 in AZ.
