Disagree that she'd have had a different outcome w/ Garin instead of Penn. She is who she is. That's the lesson for those of us who thought we had a pretty good idea of who hillary clinton is or was. Beneath her constantly changing personalities lies a self-absorbed liar and backstabber.

This is indeed sad. Hillary Clinton began this campaign as a relatively sure thing for the Democratic party, but in the ensuing months, she showed all of us what she was really made of--a compulsive liar, nasty, back bitting, dirty, ugly, childish and a very sore loser. Now she won't go away, or at least revise her losing campaign strategy to make sure she doesn't continue to hurt the winning canidate, Barack Obama. She needs to understand that she will NEVER become the Democratic nominee, so what she needs to do now is work to undirty herself by completely stopping her attacks against Obama and starting to wind down her loosing campaign. If she still has the need to hurt someone, she can try to attack McCain and align herself with Obama by praising his abilities and qualities.
Not sure she has it in her to do that, she has proven to be such a low life greedy person, but these next few days will tell us if she indeed has some good in her by the way she handles herself with Obama.
How sad, how pathetic she has become--definitely not Presidential material.

She is going to try to posture a position for another run in 2012, My only wonder is "which party"

I'm fully expecting the Clintons to start blaming a vast left-wing conspiracy of latte sipping, effete eggheads for subverting her coronation as president. I'm hoping it will be called the "half vast" conspiracy, to go hand-in-glove with her campaign strategy..

Very insightful. Unfortunately, the Clintons who benefitted most from unwavering African American support during Bill's presidency saw it melt away when they decided to appeal to the unspoken but very real racial fears and hatreds that are still prevalent in far to many White Americans.

I am not sure that White America is ready to turn the car keys over to a Black Man. One thing that I have noticed over the years in corporate America is.... very often, when a company is declining it will hire a Black chief executive to preside over its eventual failure. I hope that is not the gift that the USA want to give Barack Obama.

This nation has tried very hard to hide its NASTY streak when it comes for its dislike of Black people. That is why so many Whites get upset when Black people state the OBVIOUS about Race in this nation.

We are about to see the TRUE character of the American people over the next 6 months. Should be fascinating.

He is half-white, botboy. Unfortunately, he looks black.

To him, his white ancestry matters just as much as his black ancestry. For most mixed people, that is how it is. I personally emphasize to my mixed daughter all aspects of who she is, and always make certain to teach her about the various cultures that contribute to where she came from.

Unfortunately, this country has a habit of basing just on surface appearance, which is why during segregation, there was such a thing known as "passing" - black people who were so light-skinned they could pretend to be white.

Appearance really matters, it seems. It's really sad.

This is so funny. There was a time when 1 drop of black blood made you black, now I here all of a sudden from whites saying hold on he's white too. Amazing. So what about all the other AA un the US. There are not alot of 100% pure blacks in this country. Can they too proclaim their whiteness eventhough they have dark skin or is it just designated for lighter skinned black?

Oh my god.

That's exactly it! THAT is the explanation I've been wanting to give for weeks but not doing a good job of saying it.

I am black. My family is black. THIS (in her article) is the kind of sentiment they have. The people who go to churches and attend these sermons, they do not leave the churches with hearts filled with hate. They leave with HOPE. Ask any successful black person how they got there, and I bet you at least 95% of them will mention Church in the list.

They do not walk out of those churches and commit hate crimes or glare at white people or what have you. There have been no reports of hate crimes or hate speech or anything like that, not from parents nor children alike. And to add onto that, there are white people in the congregation, and all of those church people have either white friends or coworkers or reach out to white people through their ministries.

But a lot of people don't seem to notice the DISPARITY. On one hand, you say it is a hate church. --Where is the hate? Where are the church members who've ganged up on a white person and beaten or killed them? Where are all of the things that come along with REAL hate groups?

I am sorry, but I just could not read the rest of Noonan's column. Maybe I am guilty of exactly what I am accusing other people of. So I guess I will have to go back and read it.

She has completely mis-characterized Rev. Wright. She has bought into the big lie that the media is promoting. I can't really blame her too much as the media seem to have fooled even Barack Obama.

All Noonan has to do is to see the videos of any of Wright's complete sermons or speeches to know how the media have got it all turned around backwards.

It is just like so many people in the world were fooled by Colin Powell's presentation to the United Nations. Here is a man we thought we could really trust. Certainly what he was presenting to us had to be true. But in fact the evidence he was showing us was not what it seemed to be. This is exactly what the media are doing to Rev. Wright. What they show us seems to be incontrovertible facts. However, it is all a horrible lie. This time it doesn't take having your own intelligence agency to see that you have been duped. All you have to do is look at the videos that are readily available on the web.

Here, I have gathered a few links for you to start your own research:

OK, now I have read the full column by Peggy Noonan.

If Rev. Wright were really the ogre that the media portrays him to be, then Noonan's column would be a fine explanation of why that shouldn't deter us from voting for Obama. However, Rev. Wright is not the person she assumes him to be. Why should we destroy Rev. Wright just so we can make a good point?

If she were the excellent writer she appears to be, it would have been nice if she could have made the point without buying into the anti-Wright propaganda. She could have said just what I said here. "If Wright were what the media portrayed him to be ..."

Then she could have ended by saying that, in fact, Wright is the exact opposite of his portrayal.

PART of the responsibility for this nightmare must go to the Media. It has allowed the Clintons to keep changing goalposts, metrics, without sufficiently calling them on it.

Democrats now find themselves in the position of having to slog through several more weeks of a contest that should be over. Why? In large measure because the Clintons have been able to play a new game, the metrics game, which includes the national popular vote as a “metric.” The very fact that we are talking about different “metrics” reflects the degree to which the Clinton campaign has managed to set the agenda. The notion of “a collective popular vote” in the nomination process is a myth that simply hasn’t been properly “vetted” by the Media. One has to ask why the Media hasn’t done a better job.

Please check out: “How Would Primaries Have Changed the Results in Caucus States?” by Gregory P. Nini and Glenn Hurowitz . http://www.dcourage.com/Caucus%20Study.pdf

Also, "The Myth of the Popular Vote" http://msa4.wordpress.com/

This race should be over. It is time that the DNC and the Media make it clear that the Democrats have a delegate contest.

Please see Jason Linkins blog here today for validation of your opening statement -- and more. A bonus surprise! See, it's the candidates who are supposed to do what the media wants them to do, and if they don't, then the media gets all righteously pissy about it. Check out that blog, you'll be amazed. And angry, I predict.

The political strategy that the Clintons and James Carville brought out for viewing these past couple of weeks even predates Rove. It was the Lee Atwater "southern strategy" of the Republican party of 20 years ago.

Yes, Americans want to turn the page.
04:39 PM on 05/07/2008
When the Hildabeast says Obama can't beat McCain (who is a horrible and inept candidate) she's telling a lot of blue-collar Democrats that a black candidate can't beat a white candidate. The reason the media doesn't jump all over this is that it's just too gamey to touch.

Race may play a part but that's nothing new.You all act like you just discovered it.'s a major force in the political arena.I don't hear Obama talking like this and you know what - he's taking the right tack, because calling people racist does not win them over, or make them want to join your campaign.

Look at the numbers, the Clintons say: Your son didn't get into the college that was his first choice but the black kid with lower SATs did? Your brother didn't get the civil service slot on the fire department because he was white and there is an unspoken quota? You didn't get the promotion because corporate diversity policy mutely suggested a person of color get it? Your kid is being bused an hour and half a day to a public school with low reading scores?

The Clintons ARE NOT saying this ! YOU ARE.and it's disgusting .

It is quite a stretch. I don't know where he got that from, and I hate hillary as much as anybody.
05:21 PM on 05/07/2008
The point is that Hillary didn't have to say those things explicitly. All that Hillary and Bill needed to do was to imply that they understood these problems and that they were on the working-class white voters. Wink, wink.

He needed to be more accurate that it's not literally what the Clintons and their surrogates have said but it's the thoughts that they have encouraged in those with any sort of racial tendencies. Remember what Ferraro said about Obama being so lucky to be black? And that that is why he is ahead? Give me a break? And the Jesse Jackson comparison by Bill? I can go on but . . . let's get on the general election.
04:36 PM on 05/07/2008
I despised the Clintons back in the 90s and voted against Hillary twice in New York. (It was their gun stance, not their civil rights platform that drove me crazy.)

But I never dreamed they would actively rekindle racial devisiveness as a weapon in an effort to win back the Whitehouse.

Mike, I hope you're wrong, yet I fear you are right.
04:35 PM on 05/07/2008
I agree the Clinton's have turned this into a 'VOTE WHITE" campaign.

But by focusing on the "WHITE VOTE" in the past 8 weeks (since Pennslyvania), Hillary has also distanced herself from the LATINO and ASIAN vote.

The LATINO and ASIAN vote was only important when Hillary needed them in states like California and Texas.......Were they only a " necessary convenience" towards her own ambitions?

While she tries to play the race card out of DESPERATION, and is PANDERING to the WHITE population, she has not only lost the BLACK vote, but she has lost major support in the LATINO and ASIAN communities.

She will soon learn why polarization does not work......Obama is all about inclusion......Hillary has caused race relations to regress, and has caused major polarized divisions.

Does America want a person who is only the President for the WHITE POPULATION? If Hillary does not change course, that is the message that will be heard throughout the BLACK, LATINO and ASIAN communities.

HILLARY NEEDS TO BE REMINDED THAT THIS IS THE "UNITED" STATES OF AMERICA.....NOT THE 'WHITE" STATES OF AMERICA.

The MSM meanwhile didn't provide depth about Bill's many campaign stops, only referring to them as being in small towns; when in fact they were panders to 'white voters.' Omission is but one tool in the arsenal of the scoundrel who keeps racism alive by identifying it as something 'normal' and 'routine.' But, more alarming are those black high-level supporters who sit back and watch the Clintons diss the black, Latino and Asian community just for a crumb off of the Clinton plantation table.

This tells us that their support does not translate into real power for the black, Latino and Asian communities they are suspose to deliver, it only translate into something personal for them who will gain another feather in their own cap. And, there is Bob Johnson the perveyor of filth openly discussing Obama's youthful drug use as he panders to the Clintons who occasionally use his island retreat. They are as a whole, one disgusting bunch of sycophants yearning for the Clinton teat.

I could never vote to enable these two weasels back in the Whitehouse.

If you've ever read or watched Mike Barnicle on TV you know that he is not an incendiary writer or pundit, so it says a great deal about the absurdity of this purposelessly drawn out campaign. Bravo, Mike for this piece.
