As long as they keep Earth and SketchUp I really don't care about the others.

Cheers,

How about concentrating on what they originally set out to do: be a very good search engine. No one needs the rest of their burnt offerings - or indeed their spying and information gathering activities.
04:42 AM on 11/23/2011
Actually, what they originally set out to do was to create an index of books. The search engine came from that. So if you actually want them to go back to the very beginning, I guess you think we should all learn to love Bing somehow?

Search is dead; try it every search just ends up with a wikipedia entry at the top and the subsequent entries are the sites that are used as sources.

Only Apple can challenge Facebook, and it can only manage that IF it delivers:

1. Complete privacy from Day One into Forever.
2. A lovely interface with customization options.
3. No ads. (It can make revenue off of other things.)
4. Provides its own internal search engine (seeya Google!)
5. Allows user backups at affordable rates (essentially a new iCloud feature)

and the impossible dream feature

6. A way to import Facebook (won't happen, but maybe we should ask Siri)

I've, honestly, never even heard of any of these "products". Google should advertise their stuff more if they want people to use it.

Responsibility vs. Depraved Indifference.

For the past three years I've had to endure a management staff that doesn't really know anything trying to move all of our business processes to Google. This only drives home the point that a system you don't own, control, have legal rights to the data, etc... is a risky investment. Have a problem with a system you are relying on for your business? Good luck getting tech support...

Google is not suited to provide business solutions. End of story. I like 'em, and am intrigued by their development concepts, but they are far too flaky.

I think it's a good thing they are stopping development on projects that aren't working out. Just makes good sense.

Google owns search. If they want to expand and increase their revenue they must do other things. If they simply want to sit on their laurels, then they are not interested in growing. People say what a wonderful tech company Apple is. They have long talked about what great computers Apple makes. Yet, Apple was doomed to be a niche player, if they didn't try other products, and yes some of those products failed. Apple finally caught fire with the iPod and the iPhone, but just think what the company would be like if they had simply stuck to just making personal computers. It would not be the tech giant it is today.

My belief is once you own a market, like Google does search, you should definitely try other things. Also Google is having more success than many people realize. The Chrome browser will soon overtake Firefox in market share. In 3 short years, it has passed Opera and Apple's Safari which have been around much longer. Yet, I don't see anyone screaming for Apple to discontinue Safari.

I'd gladly dump all of these AND G+ it they'd just bring back Google 411. I loved it and they broke my little cheapskate techie heart when they closed it down.

I know, google 411 was by far their most useful innovation yet...

I think Google just needs to spend more money on marketing.

I am also sorry that they are closing Google health. However, I am now learning about Microsoft's Health Vault. And there is a way of transferring you current information. I haven't done it yet, so I can't advise on how to do it, but try this link
http://support.google.com/health/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1347995.

For Google Notebook , I suggest using Zoho Notebook. In fact, I think Zoho Notebook is actually quite a bit better than Google Notebook. Again there is a way to import Google Notebook into your Zoho Notebook, I did quite a while back, so I don't remember since I only had to do it once. There are several ways and there is a link at the top of Zoho Notebook for importing your Google Notebook.

There is quirk with multiple page notebooks. Clicking on the tabs will not bring up your next page. You must double click and ignore the popup or close it.

Also, you may use your Google sign on at Zoho.
