No you see why people did not like Carl Palidino when he ran for office. And it was not just because of his right wing rhetoric. If he did not want to attend the NACCP event then he could have come up with a better excuse then to kiss his rear.

A little known and often misunderstood tendency of some Mainers is that they speak bluntly without thinking first. Paul LePage is a classic example. What's unusual here is that he's been elected the governor. Now the nation gets to witness this lovely trait in garish Technicolor.

What I find most offensive about LePage is that he seems to have forgotten his own life story. He grew up poor, practically homeless, and speaking another language. Today, if you asked him, I'll bet he'd agree with Newt Gingrich--that "really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working." Outrageous.

Teapublicans will go to any lengths to destroy the middle and low income families and replace them with indentured servants.

I love to drive the coast of Maine.

But we are boycotting the state till he is gone.

If you refuse to visit Maine because of our governor then you are missing the whole point of visiting. I don't like him either but your attitude is appalling.

There are other beautiful places to visit. Why should I support a rightwing state? My attitude is that my dollars should go to states that support my ethics.

How dare O'Brien try to help the American people in need! The American people don't want to have any help. They already got too much help by the GOP getting IN to poverty. I'm sure they don't want any help getting back out!

What exactly is the controversy here?

It's not the fact that he said bs.

It's what he said was bs that is the 'controversy'.

It might help if you read the article and not just the headline.

Right. So if he instead said...'Its a farce'...no controversy at all eh.

It would help if you asked before assuming. Because no where within the story is your point supported.

But thanks for playing.

Sound to me like O'Brian is trying to use state offices for politicing which is totally out of bounds. Also, sounds like he was going to use the meeting for his poliical gain. What a waste of internet space!

so then trying to aid the unemploed of his state is Pol i tics then? I think a little objectivity is called for here.
12:22 PM on 12/06/2011
Not at all, I just believe that his use of a use of a state office for obvious political purposes is simply politicing with that state office and as such is unethical. He is free to hold those meetings in his own offices or a hotel or any other office but not in a state funded building. Same goes for the other side!

It's not the folks who voted for him - It's the folks who didn't vote at all. This is the story of the mid-term results universally in this nation.

Yet another state with buyers remorse. Is this clown up for re-election in 2012? Would be nice for the people of Maine to be able to correct their mistake.

Someone please explain to me why it is deemed "ok" but Republicans for one of their own to say something like this but if a Democrat ever even came CLOSE to saying something even REMOTELY similar, the GOP would call for his political crucifixion?

The core of Republican's are inherently dishonest voters. Hypocrisy is in their DNA is the best I can figure.

What is the attraction that the Right has for boorish bullies whether it be this guy, Christie, Trump or Walker? I guess they're fun to watch in a perverse sort of way, but they add nothing to the public discourse.
11:06 AM on 12/06/2011
folks who behave this way ,in my experience, are insecure. For whatever reason. And their response is to be a bully when challenged. It sounds to me like the dem legislator was attempting to help constituents find jobs and because these folks weren't big time rich contributors the Gov wasn't interested.

Besides, bullish behavior tends to get you absolutely nothing in return; that is, nothing substantive. Instead, resentment sets in, and havoc follows... For example, Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin, and John Kaisic, Governor of Ohio, really isn't much better given his unfavorable rating. The one thing these guy's seem to have either forgotten or don't know anything about is the art of negotiation and/or compromise that ultimately benefits the majority rather than the minority.

According to what seem to be our shared measures of success, you're spot on. That said, these guys march to a different drummer, and it seems the people worshiping them do, too. To them bending others to their wills is the ideal way to interact others.

One question always springs to mind when I hear someone extolling the virtues of someone like LePage who rules with an iron fist. I'd like to know how much they'd want to work for someone like him.
