NRA and their ilk make so many millions a year on gun trafficking, gang war fare in Mexico and throughout the US as well as bogus wars in the middle east
. . . And the NRA have our congress by the balls, thanks to lobbyists.

The NRA is a non profit. They do not traffic any firearms nor do they profit from the sale of firearms.

As for trafficing of firearms to Mexico, check with your buddy Eric Holder on that one.

Ever check out how much money unions donate to lobbyists? NRA is not even near the top.

Waiting to read someone posting the comment: If only those kids had guns with them while they were playing basketball so they could defend themselves.
01:36 AM on 12/13/2011
I like how half the comments on huffington post on this issue reflect a deep seated hatred of white southerners, even though the incident happened in a county that is 90% Hispanic. How quick you all are to believe that an extremely blind hunter was aiming a weapon that probably has an 800 yard range at most, at group of buildings, accidentally hitting two kids? In a county where the vast majority of the violence is sponsored by one of a few of ultra violent international cartels? Where threats against family members are one of the primary methods of gaining compliance in a number of illicit trades? Where the cops are famous for trying to look the other way, because they have families too?

And in the time since I left that comment.... the one person who is in custody... is an illegal alien who was trespassing with an assault rifle. In spite of pages of comments ridiculing "Texas Red Necks," by their obviously more educated socioeconomic superiors. I guess if we had laws against hunting, that illegal alien wouldn't have been running around with his undocumented assault rifle on land where he had no right to set foot... right?

In our southern border counties you are far more likely to be shot on purpose then shot on accident... what effect does that have on your plea for parsimony?
01:24 AM on 12/13/2011
I live in rural Texas, and understand that laws are definately in favor of hunters. I have had bird shot go off over my head, hit the trees above me, and rain down to the ground around me, when I was no more than 20 feet from my home. The above wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Some hunters believe it is their right to shoot whatever animal they come across, no matter if it endangers humans or not. During the housing boom, they began surrounding fields with neighborhoods, but kept laws in place that would allow hunting to continue (in the least dove hunting) in the fields just behind people's homes. You remember those vacant fields near your neighborhood that the kids always used for sandlot football games? Instead of the kids playing football, imagine hunters shooting into the sky.

Disgraceful would be Wayne Lapierre saying then President Clinton wanted children to get shot at school to further his anti-gun agenda. Not sure what you're whining about.

Have seen complete polarization on here tonight on subjects like guns, pregnancy prevention, treatment of transgendered ( still letting that term come into focus), elections, among others.
Typically people run right back to the shelter of their party affiliation to toss opinions back at people who disagree with them.
How can your answers to multiple major items all completely agree with the party line?
Wondering if we are too scared to step out on our own and think for ourselves anymore. Just because a few of our beliefs match up with the red or the blue, that means that ALL of them do?
This is one of the reasons we are stuck with the non-productive 2 party system of government that we can't rid ourselves of now.
Here's hoping we get a leader who professes only to be an American and shuns the typical club of self-serving cronies who are taking up too much space in Washington now.

They are assuming it was a hunting incident. Assuming! Would like to see the outcome of the investigation! You never see that though. Used to take my shot gun to school the bus driver would keep my gun until afterwards and get off the bus with my cousin and we would go hunting around his place never had any accidents like this. There are rule and regs on where you can shoot and cant. Not saying there are never accidents like this, but very unlikely.

My heart goes out to the children and their families. Having lost a daughter aged 10 to cancer, I agonize with these parents! She would be thirty this year. The pain never leaves you..never...It lessens but never leaves..

Rural, suburbs, city, whichever state.....makes no difference.....when our children are hurt in what should be a safe environment....it is our duty to bring about change.

Hunters, gangs, drive by, bullies, psychopaths, ..where ever....when ever...it is our duty to bring about change.

The farmers owning this land may need the lease money...I don't know...but, there must be laws changed to disallow any hunting in lands adjacent to schools!!

If the state needs to pay them for a "right of way" or some such....do it!! I know the school came later....but, there should have been legal restrictions put in place!

That said..we do not know if hunters were involved or not. I will not jump to that conclusion.

But...no school should be within miles and miles of deer hunting areas in this day and age and with the powerful rifles/bows being used...and the laws need to be changed if it is legal....

.OUR DUTY to our children is to provide as safe an environment as we can!

Tea..

I can't even fathom losing a 10 yr old daughter to cancer, I'm so very sorry for your loss, Tea.

Just like no schools should be around hunting grounds evidenced by this case, no schools should be adjacent to crop growing fields that are sprayed with chemicals. When I learned that my kid's playground was next door to such a farmer, we changed schools.

When I became aware that this particular city, Lompoc CA was off the charts in asthma cases and actually experienced crop sprayers spewing their pesticides over us, it was we're outta here!

We have worked very hard in Washington State to control environmental dangers in our school buildings and on the outside property/school grounds.

I am very proud ....as a parent and retired teacher...of my state.
Good for you for being so proactive about your children!

Best to you and yours..and thank you for your kind words, friend:>) Tea

If we were in another developed country, these news would be in front page with bold outlines, not burried among more mundane news of the day.. This shows how desensitize we have become to shootings that are becoming a daily occurence in our streets and schools.
