Only Olbermann picked it up. The MSM will keep covering for him.

Don't worry about it. He can (and does) say the most idiotic and uninformed things but it gets virtually no airplay.

I've been out of the MSN loop the past few days so my question is; is this story being picked up by anyone else? This is actually huge political and watchdog press news with the second mistake made by the McCain campaign making it that much more of a monumental story. Is anyone else besides Huffi covering this.

Details ... details ...

So the Anbar Awakening occurred before the "Surge"? ... So, the Sheik/Sheikh who McCain said had the "Surge" to thank for the Anbar Awakening was actually murdered during the "Surge"? ... So the seeming success of the "Surge" is owed as much to payoffs to insurgent groups to play nice, as to an increase of US Military personnel? ... So, there is no Chekoslovakia? ... So, Iraq and Pakistan don't share a common border? ... So, Vladimir Putin isn't the Chancellor of Germany? ....

What IS IT with you people? Have we become a nation of auditors? Good God!

We had Presidents that held meetings while on the toilet ... (LBJ) We had Presidents that diddled interns in the Oval Office (Clinton) ... We had Presidents that consulted Astrologers (Reagan) ... We had Presidents with severe motor function impairment (oops ... Ford) ... We had Presidents that were sociopathic and would rant at pictures of dead Presidents on the walls of the White House (Nixon) ...

Why not John McCain? Why not a man who is completely lost and doesn't have a clue about the things he claims to be an expert about?

A nation of auditors is what we have become ...

Yet it's extremely important that Obama's mama told him some romantic story about how she met and fell in love with his daddy that couldn't have happened that way because of some date in the civil rights movement to which she referred having happened a year after he was born or something.

It's easy for me to understand why John McCain is making so many factual errors. Lying to Americans is a Republican Platform Plank. There's no law that says politicians have to be honest. Facts are a hindrance when most Americans only know what their TV tells them. The Law doesn't require news to be true or honest or factual. We hardly know our own history, must less what is going on around us in the present. But we take in more information than any humans have since the dawn of man. We spend a sizable portion of our existence taking in information. But it's like white bread and sugar. We're just become fat heads who think we know a lot. I can't imagine that this situation of educated ignorance will not doom us.

Millions of Americans would vote for a dog if it ran as a Republican. The dog could be dead, and they'd vote for it. When it started smelling they'd make excuses for it. After eight years it could rot away, and they'd build a Monument to the Dead Dog that Served its Country Well by Rotting Away. But the dog must be on the ticket as a Republican.

For a Democrat the dog must be able to bark, and be leash trained.

McCain has bragged how he was a soldier in the Reagan Revolution. And like Reagan, having knowledge of facts apparently isn't one of McCain's larger priorities.

It seems the msm is geared toward letting him lie all he wants. How do they make $ off this?
09:30 PM on 07/23/2008
By keeping this race close they have more people tuned in to watch. Simple economics. On top of that, corporate America would really like to see a Repug in the WH and the MSM are a bunch of big corporations.

I've read this ridiculous comment enough. He simply made a linguistic error (thinking of one thing while talking about something else)....no one with any sense thinks that Obama doesn't know how many states are in the U.S. Contrast this misstatement with the numerous errors McCain has made---not just careless errors but rather serious mistakes in facts--and comments about Obama's 57 "states" just look childish.
05:56 AM on 07/24/2008
There are 56 states and territories in the US. (I didn't know this myself -- this includes Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, etc. Thom Hartmann had pointed out on his radio show the possibility of this and he was right.)

I don't know what Barack was thinking when he said what he did, but he's a lot closer than I would have been in estimating this number.

Sure is more accurate than many of the gaffes that McCain has made, and continues to make.

These don't rate much discussion. Obama corrects himself on the "breathalyzer" comment, and the other two were simple misstatements probably caused from thinking about one thing (such as number of primaries) and talking about something else. McCain's mistakes are much more serious since they involve facts about history, geography, and current affairs that would affect his performance as president. God forbid he should win.
