Maybe the next calendar-making shift just didn't show up for work.

The biggest danger to human survival is self-professing prophecy. Enough uneducated irrational people believe this they will make it so, then turn around and say 'see, told ya.'

I'm a skeptical person but if a Republican wins the election then I'm definitely stocking up.

What about preparation? Well, that's up to the individual. I WILL be preparing and it doesn't include storing massive amounts of food and water. What it does include is educating myself and using critical thinking skills to envision what will be needed and what will not be needed. If the electrical circuitry is fried, that kind of narrows things down a bit. A good solid mountain bike would be a good idea. Hunting gear. Seeds. If possible, something to detect radiation. Like a dosimeter. Probably the most important artifact you MUST bring is knowledge. Books or stuff you might print from the internet sites you might visit. Topics should cover a WIDE spectrum. From agriculture to smelting to crafting tools or whatever you see fit.

If you are in a "wait and see" mode, you might get burned. In fact, you WILL get burned. Your money will become worthless over night. I would rather prepare in earnest than to be caught holding the bag.

First, I do not believe the earth/world will "end". I do, however, believe that something will happen which changes the world as we KNOW it. This can be many things. But, the one thing that keeps needling me is the solar flaring/galactic alignment angle. From what I understand, the solar system is entering the galactic plane. Of which the solar system oscillates "above and below" on a cycle of 10s of thousands of years. My rudimentary understanding of physics, electromagnetism and how the sun affects the earths many systems and subsystems tells me that this "disk" of hot, dense matter will certainly "energize" the sun and by proxy, the earth. We've been experiencing great changes over the past 3-5 years. Increases in seismic activity, volcanism and the drifting magnetic poles (not to mention the magnetosphere anomolies which have been observed recently). Seasons are not like the seasons we experienced 15-20 years ago. They are shifting, as well.

There is a few scenarios that would "change the world as we know it". But, the singularly epic is the "lights going out". If you can imagine the electrical grid going out, you are imagining absolute chaos for humankind. Well, at least the developed countries. Amazonian tribes will also experience great changes, but, they don't use electricity. The vast majority of us, however, do. Metropolitan areas would become centers of madness and mayhem. That is why people with survival skills will be better off than those without.

My thoughts exactly. I've been thinking along the lines of a global meltdown of our electrical grid system, which could possibly be triggered by a massive solar flare, which has been predicted to reach it's highest point in cyclic activity on or around 12-21-12, according to NASA experts on the subject. We've already experienced massive rolling blackouts of our aging and patchworked system which is currently being overloaded by a worldwide growth of electrical appliances, computers and cellphones. Why is it such a far stretch to envision such a catastrophy?

10. OK, so this is all a bunch of hooey from a backwards primitive culture, right?
