Rabbis are not the highest paid religious--TV evangelists and pastors of the Christian megachurches rake in so much they'd put any rabbi to shame. The late televangelist Oral Robert at one time owned 3 Mercedes and 2 vacations homes all paid for by the ministry. Oy vey!

Yup , Rick Warren, Joel O, J. Myers, T.J. Jakes,Benny Hinn........ The bible says not to preach for filthy lucore. The bible does teach for the church to provide for the pastors needs. But to give him a lavish lifestyle is certainly not scriptural. Of course non of the above are real pastors. The bible also says that a pastor must know the condition of his flock, spiritualy and physically.

What about the Chief Rabbis, Muftis, Protestant Archbishops wages?

Don't forget the Dalai Lama who was already receiving from the CIA, back in the SIXTIES, 2 millions dollars per year as a personal allowance in addition to the one covering his functions and accommodation expenses!

If Rabbi's salaries are paid the most then why put a picture of a priest when asking which religion clergy is paid the highest? If a person does not read the article and just the title they would assume right away that its a priest.

this makes the most sense, rabbi's generally have families and live more of their life "outside" their congregational duties. While priests are low paid, they are always on duty, have no families to take care of and often times live on their church grounds. I was a litte surprised that protestant ministers make so little, but i assume many of them consider it to be part time venture and tend to live in lower income parts of the country

The spouses are probably the breadwinners. I had a coach who did ministering when not coaching. His wife is an RN and they have 2 kids.

Protestant ministers also have families an yet the salaries difference is great. Plus rabbis live on the synagogues ground too.

"Plus rabbis live on the synagogues ground too."

No, they don't. Perhaps a few ultra-orthodox rabbis might, although I can't think of any who would. Almost all rabbis, if not all of them, do not live on the synagogues grounds.

In my congregation, we don't have paid clergy, we have elders and none of the elders get paid. They all have secular jobs to pay their own way. The bills get paid by donation basis. No baskets are ever passed and no tithes are paid, since that was part of the Mosaic law and not a law the Christians were bound by. There are collection boxes located at the entrance off to the side and no one is required to pay anything, it is totally voluntary. It is mentioned a few times in the course of the year that giving helps to run things, but it is not brought up more often than that.

Everyone is a volunteer. We are assigned cleaning of the hall on a weekly basis (all the brothers and sisters are) and everyone takes a turn, a group at a time, but if we don't do our part no one says anything about it. We have millions of brothers and sisters around the world and none of the elders in any of the congregations get paid. We follow the pattern of the Christians in the first century, the apostle Paul worked as a tent maker with Aquilla and Prisca. When someone gets married or someone dies, the elders do not get paid for their services. Jesus said, you received free, give free.

Why? Because I point out that clergy should not be getting paid? And that a congregation can be run without paid clergy?

Another point is -Their is a clear cut campaign by some of these posters is to be off the wall and negative when things that a Christian says makes sense. They believe that they can eliminate Christianity by belittling them. If you notice, they allow an anti Christian comment a lot of latitude. They let each other say horrible things, even congratulating each other, but when a Christian makes a good point, they go on the warpath and attack.

What they do not realize is, that Scripture prophesied about these people. Scripture asks: Who is the antichrist? And, scripture answers the question. The word antichrist appears 5 times, singular and plural, all of them in 2 of the epistles of John. For instance John 2:18 states their are MANY antichrists- those who deny Jesus. We expect them to fight us and the battle is picking up speed. The times will get more ferocious. We, as Christians, do not pick up weapons to fight, (Ephesians 6:10-20) so they think we are weak, but if God is on our side, who can stop us?

One of their "leaders" is Richard Dawkins and he urges all atheists to "openly state their position and take up militant atheism". Dawkins is a smooth tongued guy. The words drip off like butter and many posters quote him and quote him often. No new ideas that THEY are espousing, just repetitive pronouncements of the same thing over and over.

The people who make fun of religion do not realize there are blessings in learning and then spreading those teachings. NO matter what scientists do but one thing is obvious that there rewards besides too much meditations and too much experimentions. It all depends how you teach people and then see how much contributions come in. The more people learn the more they find the hidden riches in religion. And since the day one this special teaching has been a very noble profession and those who indulge do reap the benefits. It all depends how rich is your following ----- the elite education institutions pay the highest salaries to the teaching staff and reap the best tuition fees from those who devote themselves to excel. The more rich your following the more in the remuneration. So why complain or laugh at this real reality of life that Religions do pay good to those who try to keep them alive and be competitive.

$25-40k is just what the church pays them...it doesn't include the perks.

Ministers and priests make cash under the table for weddings and baptisms, get free travel to conferences and retreats, get free meals at religious functions, plus they can work on the side as a chaplain at a hospital or retirement home.

correct. ministers, with employment, usually get a housing allowance
and car allowance not included
in their base pay (or instead of a housing allowance, the use of a home owned
by the church)
so if you add in Car and House, the pay goes up considerably
04:33 AM on 01/14/2012
True.  They also are paid for weddings, funerals, etc. and many have wealthy church members who pay for their children's education.
