While everyone in politics are abusing this, it amazes me that the GOBP candidates and many of their politicians actually believe there needs to be more money in elections.

Ummm the DNC is also raising a boatload, the President is having a $35,000 a plate dinner. Not that I prefer one side over the other they are both corrupt and play their followers like a violin. I would just like to see a little equality in the comments here.
03:59 PM on 01/16/2012
Absolutely. It doesn't matter anymore, and that's what people in their heated rhetoric fail to realize. I don't care if you call yourselves Democrat, Republican, Independent or the Bull Moose Peace and Freedom Tea Party, it is, has been, and will continue to be about money. Not what's good or bad, but what pays. Or who pays. As long as candidates are required to shill for money honesty will be in short supply. NO ONE wants to talk about public financing, but until we come up with a a way to co-opt the folks with the real dough, this is what we are going to get. It is to weep.

Quick question
If money is now considered part of free speech
and my free speech is protected from abuse by the consitution
then i should be able to withhold by speech from the IRS as a form of protest that is constituionally protected.

Yep. You would be free to buy billboard space to criticize the IRS and it would be constitutionally protected, (Though protection under the Constitution has been a little inconsistent in the last decade - sketchy might be a better word). In fact, you could spend all your money doing that., but that's about as far as I can follow your logic.

WARNING THE FOLLOWING ONLY MAKES SENSE IN THE LEGAL UNIVERSE ALSO POSSIBLY IN A MONTY PYTHON SKETCH

MONEY = FREE SPEECH
GOVERNMENT TAXES MY MONEY
MY FREE SPEECH IS PROTECTED
MY SPEECH IS PROTECTED FROM LIBEL AND SLANDER
IF THE GOVERNMENT USES MY MONEY IN A WAY I DON'T APPROVE IT IS SLANDER AND LIBEL
IN ORDER TO PROTCECT MY FREE SPEECH I MUST KEEP THE GOVERNMENT FROM HAVING MY FREE SPEECH SO THEY CANNOT ABUSE IT IN A FASHION I DO NOT APPROVE OF.
THEREFORE WITHOLDING TAXES IS A PROTECTED AND SACROSANCT LAW

SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS. BUTTON IS BROKEN ON MY KEYBOARD.

If "corporations are people", then "people are corporations". We know the latter is not true, therefore the former has to be a false statement.
11:07 AM on 01/16/2012
It doesn't work that way. Dogs are mammals, therefore mammals are dogs?

11:21 AM on 01/16/2012
mammals are dogs, just not all mammals are dogs. However, people are not corporations and never have been. Corporations are a business paradigm and have never been corporeal.
10:33 AM on 01/16/2012
Colbert/ Stewart manage to point out the absurdity of the system and the character of the Republican candidates in a way no amount of rhetoric will do. They are fantastic- no wonder we trust them more than anyone else in the media.

The funny thing is that Colbert's whole shtick is based on the stupidity of the American voter.

No, the lack of integrity of the candidates the Tea Party is forcing on the GOP.
11:58 AM on 01/16/2012
You don't get to mention integrity while Obama is in office if you're a Democrat.

You also fail at linking the Tea Party to Romney. He doesn't get their vote most often. Also, the Tea Party was put in place to get rid of people like Romney. You seem to forget that. Put down the blunt, turn on Janeane Garofalo, and try to think for yourself for a change.
