Health, schmealth. The supply of chocolate is in doubt because of a disease attacking cacao plants.
09:36 AM on 02/17/2012
I don't know what all the fuss is about...who would even want to eat a Snicker's bar? WAY too sweet and the quality of the chocolate is bottom of the barrel. I'll take a small piece of high quality dark chocolate over a candy bar anyday.

Well good thing we don't need to like only what you like ;)

But brings up a good point: could one MAKE a Snickers bar, using quality ingredients, improving upon the original?

Hmmmm.....

A one bite candy bar. Sounds like they are going to way of most food/candy. Reduce the size and increase the price. I have noticed quite a bit while grocery shopping. Chips that used to cost $4 a bag still cost the same but the size has reduced significantly. No wonder we are headed for a food shortage.

sounds like an incredibly bad marketing decision from mars
I'd sell my stock if I had any

If they actually do this it would ,mean that when you go to 7-11 and see all the king sized candy bars the mars company is going to deliberatly not have their products there

I see people commenting that they are going to somehow make money off this descision...I don't see how.

not sure what you are trying to say here

So true about the 8 pack of Mars candy...less candy, same price.
04:58 AM on 02/17/2012
Consumers know that candy bars aren't nutritious....no need to try to make candy a health food.
04:41 AM on 02/17/2012
Maybe they just want to stop putting out mega size portions of candy. Everyone is downsizing for those of you who haven't noticed, not just the food industry.
05:22 AM on 02/17/2012
PEOPLE, use your head for more than a hat rack. Have you checked out the price of sugar? When two persons drink tea at a meal location one sweet the other unsweeten you pay the same price for it. WHICH ONE IS CHEAPER TO MAKE? WHICH ONE YIELDS MORE PROFIT? IT'S ABOUT DOLLARS & CENTS.

they just want to make more money by making the candy smaller so people buy more.
03:57 AM on 02/17/2012
EXACTLY RIGHT. Theyve already cut the 10 packs of miniature size bars down to 8 packs and at the same time, THEY RAISED THE PRICES. Might have to lose my love of Snicker bars as a protest :(

Look at those kisses with air bubbles whipped into them, less chocolate more profit.soap makers started foam soap because they use a 1/10 of the soap and charge the full price.I got them buy the dish soap at the dollar store and mix about a 1to 10 ratio with water into a foam bottle, don't use pomalive it won't work.

But...but...I thought the reason our kids were fat was McDonald's!! Now I'm confused.

Dear M&M Mars,

Please stop helping me! I have never read any of your product's nutrition labels. Honestly they don't survive my badger-like assault as I tear into a Snickers or rip open a pack of M&Ms. I KNOW EATING your product is "bad"--actually downright EVIL. But you know what? I don't care!! And neither should you.

Can't smoke any where any more. Dare not have a drink 200' near a vehicle. They haven't legalized crack yet. I can't super-size my fries and for some reason McDonald's wants to give me a godd@mn apple now...without my toy!! You're not helping.

The year will be 2024 and America will be no more. We'll be a quasi-nation of hyper-vigilant calorie counters, with will toned bodies and able to live 120 years--RUNNING AND HACKING EACH OTHER APART WITH MEAT CLEAVERS because we're so miserable!!!

My god they'll be handing out Celery at Halloween next. "Look Sally, if you eat your lettuce as you walk to the next house, it'll be negative calories." This is when Sally gets the idea for the cleaver.

You're extreme. The obesity problem in our country is disgusting. Some people just need to learn to stop shoving 20,000 calories down their throat every day.

More fed up than extreme. Very tired of others deciding what is best for me and others. The obesity problem is an issue and it will continue to be an issue. It's because we don't DO anything any more.
01:46 AM on 02/17/2012
Right--they're being "responsible". Well, kudos to them if that is really what they are doing, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the candy bars will be smaller and the price will be the same. Responsible to the public or to their profits?
01:34 PM on 02/17/2012
Can't it be both? If they are trying to be responsible, I hope they make a bigger profit for it:)
01:30 AM on 02/17/2012
Ok, fine....do away with the Big Snickers. I'll just buy 2 regular sized Snickers...geez. LOL

That's what you get a lot of times anyway, but you can bet your money the littler ones are going to make them even more money.

You do realize that that Mars Inc made this decision independently?

If they reduce the product size, they should reduce the price, too. Let's see how far they're really willing to go for consumers.

I'm sure the price will stay the same or maybe a bit cheaper. Wait a few months then jack it up. Its commonplace these days with food. Reduce it and charge more.

your out of your minds if you think that the candy industry will keep doing good by going with this standard . the reason some of the best candy has been around for so long is it's really good !
( not healthy ) Don't start changing just because someone who wants to control what everybody eats starts to say they aren't healthy . if it was up to the health nuts it will all taste like cardboard when they are done .

I'm going to do this blog thing for a short time to see what it is like. I expect to return to work in a day or so thinking I have wasted my weekend. Do I understand the purpose of blogs? So far, it looks like it is a forum for cackle-yap stay-at-homes who have scripted or ill-defined opinions. So far, it looks like chickensquat to me.
What possible business is this of yours to evaluate who does what? That is obviously the realm of the government! Please! Just step aside and let them exercise their new powers. Soon, they intend to own all the power. Enjoy your access to this type of interchange while it lasts.
01:18 AM on 02/17/2012
This isn't a blog. And really, who are you to judge what people say in their comments. Most are just offering an opinion. Sometimes whole discussions develop and sometimes, snot-nosed know-it-alls show up and try to make themselves feel superior by making snarky comments about stay-at-homes and chickensquat.

Maybe it's time to call the nanny and tell her it's time for your milk and cookies and send you off to your room.
02:05 AM on 02/17/2012
Need a Zanax dearie? Go to CNN to blog on the government. We have the right to evaluate those who downsize without down pricing. We call it a marketing gimmick. You had no valid point with your post.
