"As A Man Thinketh" tiny book; read & share it!

God Bless this honorable, talented, and dedicated man for living his life "in service to others". Deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Anthony.

It just seems alittle odd (imo). If he had asthma that bad and was having those attacks, while there. That he would have kept a several epi pens with him anywhere he would go. It would have probably saved his life. I guess it shows how dedicated he was though.. Either way my condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues. It is a shame he went through all that & still died so young. May He rest in Peace.

Anthony Shadid - a face I never saw; a name I don't recognize. One of the really incredible people who risk so much to tell us what's really going on in our sad world. There are others whom we will never know about, won't be able to thank, and more than likely will not see that small, imperceptible difference in how we receive the kind of information he provided. I also respect Shields who carried him across the border for medical help already knowing that his friends was gone.

These are the people we don't thank...the front liners. But we have an endless pool of big names who arrive on the scene in Egypt, Lybia, Iraq, Afghanistan to explain to us what we're seeing. Without Anthony Shadid, Richard Engle, what could those big names report?

Too young, too valuable to lose. I wish his wife and children well...you should be very proud of of your father. He lived a meaningful life.

I am so sorry for him, and his loved ones. Syria, with all it's smoke and chemicals permeating the air, is the last place someone with asthma should be!

We are all so used to instant news, we forget the risks that these journalists take in order to give it. Let's appreciate them all much more!

Very sad. Asthma is quite dangerous. Since it is a respiratory ailment people usually associate it with air-borne irritants. Actually it is often caused by food sensitivities since large portions of [allergens] may be ingested.

Would Gov Christie fly flags at half-staff if Shadid were from NJ?

I really don't know much about Gov.Christie, but it would be a shame if he flew a flag at
half-staff for Whitney Houston and not for Anthony Shadid. He was a true hero.

Perhaps this unfortunate death is a due to the ineffective HFA inhalers. These inhalers are not rescue inhalers by any means and many people are suffering and dying because they are using them as rescue inhalers. Maybe the world should look at how ineffective HFA inhalers really are and perhaps people like this fine reporter (who has probably always lived with asthma and did well with the CFC inhalers) and many others may not die ater using this dangerous HFA inhaler. My condolences to the family of this distiguished reporter.

He would seem to have had it all, close, loving family, a vocation he was successful at, many friends and collegues, honors and awards for his work, and ultimately he died doing what he choose, and hopefully at peace. I send condolences to his family and especially his father; how cruel to have a child precede you in death.

Where was his medicine?
12:39 PM on 02/17/2012
If you know anything about asthma, you would know that the regular meds don't work 100% of the time. He was under great physical stress walking to the border, great emotional stress in a war zone, and exposed to, as the story notes, a major allergan. In situations like this, meds can fail and sadly, he was not somewhere that they could take him for immediate medical intervention.

He died, ultimately, in the line of fire . . .

What a brave and courageous journalist.

Was it really an asthma attack???
12:39 PM on 02/17/2012
What IS your ugly suggestion -- that he faked his death?

Are you sick?
01:17 PM on 02/17/2012
I think what scorpian may mean is that Syrian intelligence or other government forces could be involved. Honestly, I thought of that for a minute this morning before I read the details of the story.

I didn't read the comment as a sick question. Given how little information is released in such situations, we may have no choice but to accept the story as told. He was crossing from Turnkey into Syria at an alleged point not watched carefully. I doubt we will know the full circumstances, except that his death is a tremendous loss.

Are you thinking that perhaps he was killed trying to cross the border? We will never really know so we must accept the story as explained. The fact that the the location of his entry into Syria is revealed may affect future efforts.

Fanned/fav'd. Please fan back if you choose.
