This is another example of lack of regulation of the Food Industry...sugar sells...corn sweetener in everything...and it has the benefit from a selling point to cause actual addiction....and addiction =off the charts sales...the sharp raise in dopamine and serotonin followed by an intense low...triggering a craving...hmmmm "me thinks that is a addiction parameter if ever there was one" Ha...coupled with advertising to children 4 years old and even younger...the real truth is it aint lack of exercise doing it...BUT if you ARE fat you probably wont want to play in the physical sense because it is difficult and embarrasing...so we have a disproportionate amount of carb in our diet that turn to sugar ...and actual sugar in the form of the ubiquitous corn sweetener and we have the perfect storm for fat... ta da!

This is a direct result of the genetic manipulation of wheat by the agribusinesses and the propaganda fed too us by the government to eat "healthy whole grains" The wheat grown today and in nearly everything baked, is NOT the wheat that your parents ate when they were children. In an effort to increase crop yields, about 50 years ago, the scientists and agribusinesses created a strain of wheat that was never tested for long term effects on the human body. Our bodies are not able to efficiently metabolize this wheat as in generations past leading to excessive fat stores int the body. Worse yet, it has chemicals that attach to the body's morphine receptors, stimulating further appetite. The result, obesity on a grand scale! Those groups that eat a higher amount of wheat are the same ones that are impacted the most in this article. You don't have to believe me, do your own research. Check out Dr. William Davis and his book "Wheat Belly - Lose the wheat, Lose the weight." I'm on the diet for 12-weeks now and am losing more than a pound a week 16 pounds so far and still losing -- get control of your own weight and heath!

Another crackpot "diet"! It's the "food" not the "people" making people fat!

She is out showing school children how to plant vegetables and eat healthily. A lot more than it seems you are doing trolling the internet looking for an opportunity...ANY OPPORTUNITY to make thinly disguised comments on subjects that have NOTHING to do with presidential candidates or even the ridiculousness of the Bozos vying for the Republican Circus.

Who's talking about candidates. i'm talking about an overweight first lady. She must be teaching kids how to plant potatoes by the looks of her. She should let Barrack have a few.

Time for the politicians to start telling us what we can and cannot eat. With appropriate warning labels on soda, chips, pizza, wings etc. If only we could apply it to the airways, some of those flying just should not be in one seat.
04:21 PM on 02/29/2012
Some people are so obese they need an entire row rather than 2 or 3 seats.
04:44 PM on 02/29/2012
They are already doing it with taxes on soda and vitamin J

If you charged people air fares BASED UPON THEIR WEIGHT the "problem" would probably disappear overnight. Money can be a strange motivator.

“According to the National Institutes of Health, the annual incremental cost of healthcare per person due to obesity is $1,429."

These are the people who eat up premiums, no pun intended. The socialized health insurance with a profit draws from MY premiums to pay for people who still are over weight even after hundreds and thousands of dollars are spent to help with their sick care. I've been to the doctor probably ten to fifteen times in my life. My exercise includes 6 walks a week, weights, sauna, and a younger wife. I'm 60 and she is 45. Yes we have an excellent sex life. The premiums I should be paying ought to be somewhere around $50 a month based on usage, while people who use the system but continue to avoid getting better should pay much higher premiums. Look I don't care if you want to be obese, I don't care what you eat or drink, but it puts a burden on my family who doesn't deserve to pay the same rates as people who smoke, drink, and over eat. It's still socialized medicine with a profit added.

getting fit is 30% working out and 70% what you eat. you will never be healthy if you eat badly and work out all the time.
i'm 20 and have lost 30 pounds since i was 16, its a slow process but worth it. i would not go back to my old lifestyle because doing things the right way makes you feel so much better.

Get rid of the processed foods and eat as much fresh fruit as you can. It tastes great, packed with fiber and antioxidants, and don't worry about the sugar because that's how you're supposed to get your sugar anyway!!! Plus, the juice works as a natural colon clense, in a week you'll be feeling great.

It is a personal choice; you either eat too much, or you don't. You either excercise enough, or you don't. If you don't have time to excercise, don't eat as much. It is really pretty simple. It has nothing to do with fast food, TV, vacation time, glands, metabolism, etc. . It is a choice made by the individual

It has EVERYTHING to do with fast food. Why do you think that our young people are so big. It is easy to obtain, and fast on the go food. Fast food is overloaded, with, grease, salt, sugar, sodium, soy, and just about anything else that is cheap. It is not made to nourish, but, to appeal to the taste buds. Fast foods are also subliminally implanted through commercials, and ads, and is addictive. Organic whole foods is the way to go to lose weight, and stay healthy. Of course you also have to consider the over eating factor. In order to lose weight, you have to either cut back on your calories or expend more than you take in, through exercising.

your last sentence says it all. If you are gaining weight, (an easy way to tell is to look at a scale , or in the mirror), don't eat so much, or exercise more. It is not anybody else's fault, it is not the advertisers fault, it is not the fast food company's fault. If you are gaining weight and are obese it is your fault, PERIOD. Peoeple in this country have to stop blaming other entities for their problems and this is the most controlable of all: how much you eat, or how much you excercise.
