Right or wrong, the children are already american citizens and if we do not fix the border the problems with continue. Raise a generation of american citizens that see their parents and themselves treated with racial profiling and you have helped create a giant problem for your children. American needs to concentrate on the border and not the individuals already here. To attack the current residents is about the same as attacking the auto giant Hyundai. Grandstanding on one part of society to try to influence another, just like our Gov. Bentley thinking the Alabama Law will influence Washington.

the individuals here are breaking the law and that is what their children are seeing...we are allowing a generation to be raised that has no respect for U.S. law

Just how long does it take for an illegal to become a current resident to be exempt from our immigration laws? One day, one week, one month, one year which of these would you propose? How about if they simply set foot on US soil, they become instant residents? Then comes the problem of determining WHEN they came here, and even the simple task of knowing WHO they are is hard since they have no documents by THEIR choice. The only reason that they carry no documents is so that they can use different names if arrested.

Alabama House Bill 56 ~ deals with illegals

Why would this be of interest to Car Mfgrs, whom do not hire illegals ~ I'm betting that International Car Mfgrs' human resource depts, are well versed in U.S. Labor Laws ~ knowing, it has been a Federal Felony for U.S. Employers to hire illegals since November 6, 1986.

So to help their cause the protestors plan to picket employeers who have brought great jobs to the state? Maybe I am missing something here, they think that will help them?? Even if the companies were sympathetic, what could they do? They have no control over the bill or legislature.

Why would Mercedes-Benz, Honda or Hyundai object to Alabama laws regarding driver's license, passports and visas? The laws are the same in Gemrnay, Japan and Korea.

Most liberals like myself support strict enforcment of our immigration laws, indeed the AL law simply reflects the findings of the Jordan Commision on immigration which recommended far higher border security with fencing along the southern border. It also advocated an E-Verify system for employment in the US nationwide and well as secure IDs such as drivers licenses being denied to illegals. It is rather hard to call Jordan a racists since she was the leading black liberal in Congress.

It is even funny when one person stopped and arrested for not having a drivers license or passpport is a white man from Germany. The proponents for illegals think that that shows the law is BAD! Nobody who supported the bill thinks that was a misuse of the law, and it is only those who are against the law who think it was wrong. That only shows that the law is NOT racist since it nails whites as well as others. They are ALL in violation of the law and need to be treated equally, yet those who are opposed think NOT. Of course, since the man had a passport, visa, and drivers license from Germany, he was released quickly. An illegal would have stayed in jail which is what is supposed to happen to criminals.

Immigrant rights advocates say they will not rest until the law is completely blocked or repealed.

"You can't tweak bigotry, you can't tweak hatred," Wade Henderson, president and CEO of the Leadership. "That's really the bottom line."

The very first thing these people do when they they come to America is of there own free will break our laws then want to claim they have rights. They think our laws only apply to others but not them and they deserve special treatment. Then when they don't get special treatment they claim bigotry and hatred and there rights are being violated. The insanity of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rule of law!! What do these groups not get about being in this country illegally and not taking the steps to become a legal citizen? I am all for legal immigration. If every person that hopped the river and walked here made their first stop to an immigration office and got the ball rolling on becoming a citizen, we won't be having this conversation.
But the fact is the illegals don't do this. They come across the border, use the system against the citizens, run up costs for everyone. Send money back home to help bring more illegals across the border. If the feds won't enforse the law thats already on the books, then kudos to the states that have taken matters into their own hands!

@ “I agree with the bill. Lawbreakers have no right to be hired. They should go back to their country of origin and immigrate the lawful way. You can't sneak into a country, then expect to be welcomed as a law abiding citizen.”

*Yeah, you’re ABSOLUTELY right, if only our forefathers had thought of that when they came to this side of the world and set foot on the Northern half of the Americas’ (and “legally” snuck-in), then by George, they would’ve reconsidered and gone back to THEIR countries of origin -from all over Europe-, and there wouldn’t be a United States of PART of North America today. It would just be the wild “injun” running amok & enjoyin’ what they once called Turtle Island… I’m sure that if they could read this, countless Native North American Indians would be rollin’ in their graves.

-- ‘Cause it’s common knowledge that in Alabama, non-Spanish background peeps were anticipating w. excitement for this law to pass, so that THEY could have the opportunity to line-up and pick them vegetables, fruit and other produce from our farms; I’m sure that all bama-farm owners agree that that’s the status quo, most definitely!

I do not agree with companies hiring undocumented workers. They are breaking the law, and to come out against the legislation would not be a great look for these foreign car companies. How are these companies investing in America if they are hiring illegal immigrants?

Companies hire illegal immigrates in order to abuse labor laws and increase their profits. It's wrong!

"The cost-benefit analysis by University of Alabama economist Samuel Addy estimated up to 80,000 jobs were vacated by undocumented immigrants fleeing the crackdown, costing Alabama's economy up to $10.8 billion."

So in other words, jobs now available for 80,000 Americans . . .

There is a LEGAL WAY for them to come here and work is there something wrong with doing it legally????? As long as there is a legal way to do so there crying is mute. What if everyone ignored our laws what would we have then?

I don't agree with this methodology. The last thing we need to do is give foreign investors any reason to think twice about being here. They have nothing (that I read, and I hope someone can correct me here) to do with this fight. This is the kind of 'hostility towards business' that the right will throw back in the protester's faces. Ill conceived plan.

That's all the MORE reason to not use this approach. If you drive the major industry in the area into the arms of the right then who will back you? Who will be your ally? No, I think this is poorly thought out though well meaning.
