Humanitarian war hawks are not better than any other war hawk they just think they are. The outcomes are generally the same. Death and Destruction. If we want to help these people than set up refugee camps for those who want to flee the fighting. Don't arm the rebels, that is just adding fuel to the fire. Don't set up a no fly zone, that will require destroying their air force and anti-aircraft installations. Then when he uses tanks or anything else we will be called on to bomb them too. That is just war and it will be horrible.

Too bad your lover Assad and his daddy never bothered to build a civil society that bridged sectarian divides.

40 years of torture is enough. Time for them to go. Let the people of Syria gain their freedom.

Have I ever said that this wasn't horrible? I am saying we can make it worse. Removing your buddy Saddam made things worse. An example of what could likely be the future of Syria. All so we can re-make the Ba'ath party in Syria into the same group it once was before.

The current Syrian government is secure, and this rebellion will be snuffed out. The rebellion is being fueled by Sunni's, who have the support of the Arab league, and also Saudi Arabia, but nevertheless will not prevail. The Syrian army is still in tact, and the rest of the country is secure. This will end soon.

Remember, until we have the complete resume of each and every last member of the rebellion, and we have interviewed all of them, and confirmed that they all really like America and want cable TV, we don't want to even for a moment suggest that it would be a good thing for them to drive out the vicious corrupt dictatorship that has been bleeding the nation dry for the last forty years. Lord only knows what we might be getting into!

Remember that the last time the Sunni were in power they were brutal to the Alawite sect.

Forget that any military action we take will kill thousands and simply put the Sunni back in power regardless of how brutal they may be.

Forget that your only real concern is regime change because Assad is aligned with Iran and not with your best friends in the area who oppress the Palestinians.

My my. Just go right ahead an ascribe false motives.

You bang on about how brutal the Sunni are, despite the fact that your latest example of their rule is 40 years in the past. So Arabs are incapable of development?

The Assads have been running Syria for the last 40 years. They have not had any opportunity to build a civil society that bridges sectarian divides? Nah. The Ba'athists are into torture. It is their responsibility for any violence going forward.

I am unaware of any suggestions that the US should take military action, at least not by anyone I take seriously.

And there you are suggesting that I am an apologist for Israel. Most assuredly I am not. I have a pretty rational and balanced view of Israel. Likud sucks, that is to be sure.

Regarding Assad's over all position in the region, yeah, first give Lebanon a chance for independence, get rid of Assad. And yes, anything that weakens the verminous Mullahs in Iran is good.

The people of Syria are sick of living in a vicious police state. I wish them well in their endeavors.

I can't understand people who refuse to see that some of the Rebels have used terrorist tactics. I understand that they are not all Terrorist. I also understand that Assad is a tyrant. However, there is no evidence that the Sunni will not be just as brutal if they take power. The last time the Sunni were in power in Syria they were brutal, it's part of why the Alawi are behaving the way they are.

This is a sectarian civil war and the only thing we should do to help is set up refugee camps for those who care to flee.

Let me see if I can get a grip on the various comments:

Assad is supported by Mossad. Or CIA.

The rebels are supported by both Mossad and CIA.

The rebels, to the last man, al Qaeda. Every one of them.

Al Qaeda has said nice things about the rebels, so if we arm the rebels, we are entering into an alliance with al Qaeda.

Saudi Arabia is much worse that Syria, despite the fact that there is little unrest in Saudi Arabia.

Bahrain, well, as above.

We should mind our own business.

The International Banking Cabal is manipulating the situation in order to drive the cost of oil to over $200/bbl.

Assad is bad, but the rebels will be worse.

What did I miss?

What didn't you miss with your nice straw man argument? You can put all the words you want in other people's mouths but it doesn't make it true.

Assad is a Tyrant, some rebels are aligned with terrorists, Saudi Arabia is brutal as is Bahrain. We should mind our own business because there is no evidence that the Sunni will be any less tyrannical than Assad.

What did you miss? How about the fact that the last time the Sunni ruled they brutally oppressed the Alawi minority? How about that you are only interested in taking out an ally of Iran for Israel? How about the fact that you give Saudi Arabia and Bahrain a free pass because they are allies of Israel? How about that you care nothing about the people of Syria at all.

All I know, is that I have a friend here who's family lives outside Homs and they have had no contact with them for over a month, since internet and phones were cut off. His stories about the government "disappearing" people ,including journalists who disagree with the government are heartwrenching. So, when people blanketly say the rebels are terrorists, I think about my friend's family and his not knowing if they are dead or alive.

Sadly, this is a different condition from Egypt and Libya. I don't understand all the factors, but the rebels seem to be extremist Muslims. The present regime, although a cruel dictatorship, it is secular and Christians and Jews are relatively protected. Many things are not as simple as we think. If the rebels win, we may see an even more repressive government. Maybe we have finally learned a lesson. Too many times in the past we have intervened and faced unforeseen consequences (Iraq, anyone).
