What I keep seeing over and over again from people like Santorum is their inability to empathize. His excuse for not giving more to charity is the cost of caring for a disabled child. That he is lucky and/or talented enough to make almost $1 million a year puts him in rare company. The vast bulk of people don't even dream of making that much money. Yet, he talks about the financial drain of caring for that  Read More...

For a religious person, Pope Santorum doesn't follow the teachings he pushes on everyone else. What happened to his 10% tides to the church...he barely gives 2%.

Maybe Ricky would benefit from universal health care and the Affordable Care Act.

he wouldn't have a choice in the matter and that's the point.

He has a wife and 7 kids, they can't split up the responsibility and care for the child themselves? Isn't that what good Christians do?

Of course rich snobs hire nurses aides to do that for them.

I absolutely loathe Rick Santorum, but I will give him this one thing. Charity begins at home, and his bearing the expense of caring for a disabled child may be a valid reason for his charitable contribution being otherwise low. However, I still think he is a complete clown. This may be why he lost his last re-election bid by the largest margin of defeat of an incumbent Senator since 1980.

It would be an exceptional reason if he hadn't made $1.3 million in the last two years.

santorum does not give anything to charities because he is a self-absorbed, cheap zealot. Like most repubs, he wants everything but wants to pay for nothing.

Good definition of a democrat except you missed the part where they confiscate it from one person and give it to another.

The main reason he does not give to charity is that he would have to take time to spit all the smegma out of his mouth!!

""I'm reflecting the views of the church that I believe in," he said."

Well, that settles it. Americans don't want a President that's behest to the See of Rome. See ya later, Santorum. I'd say we hardly knew ya...but it seems we know you enough to send you packing.

The RCC stands are that healthcare is a RIGHt and workers have a RIGHT to unionize and are antiwar and anti de ath penalty, but lil Ricky forgets about those things. He picks and chooses his "faith" and his "faith" seems to be that of a peeping tom, always looking into others bedrooms.

He keeps citing his religion as if we're all attending his church. And with the precedent he hopes to set about state and religion, would the rule still apply to a Jewish or Muslim candidate?

No, they chastize President Obama for apologizing to the Afghan's for the "unintended" burning of some Koran's but are upset because America is demanding an apology from Rush for his dispicable words to a woman who admits to using birth control. These candidates can't find their derier's with both hands.
How nice for you to have insurance and enough money for round the clock care for your daughter. Prenatal testing would have perhaps saved you and her a lot of money and heartache. Since you pay for health care but don't seem to have coverage for your daughter, maybe you should consider investigating exactly why that is. Maybe you should look more closely at the AHCA. Get off your high horse.
You criticized Romney for "misspeaking" about the Blunt bill. Now you want carte blanche after months of chastizing President Obama about college? You are just now looking at what you may have misinterpreted after standing on that soap box night after night calling the president a snob??

Hmm Ricky made almost a million dollars but finds it difficult to afford care for his sick daughter. Wasn't he just recently flouting the fact that medical insurance was easy for him to get and wasn't a big deal? But now he’s struggling to cover those medical expenses? Does he think it’s just him that has a child that requires extra medical attention? How about all those people who don't have the resources he has? While having a medical assistant at home is expensive the cost is around $125,000, a yr. it’s also a huge write off on his federal taxes. I for one would like to see just how much this has really put him back, perhaps by looking at his tax filings for the previous year when available.
Here’s what I really think; I think he brings out his beliefs when it suits him. He wears it like a mantel so he can preach to other people about what he perceives as their lack of values or ethics but when it comes to his own behavior such as giving to charities , well let’s just say he talks the talk but he doesn’t walk the walk.
I believe the youngsters refer to this type of behavior as being a CINO.

If insurance does not cover Ricky's daughter's care, how can he be against healthcare for people? Is it because he is rich and can afford it. Calls into question his claim that he care about America. I think Ricky cares about Ricky Period.

He doesn't give to charity? How Christian of him. The one thing that Jesus promoted above all other things is to take care of the poor - the least among us. I think Rick has run off the cliff.

How do families take care of disabled children when they make $60,000 or less? Most families can't afford full time help. Just saying if families can manage at low salaries he should be able to take care of his daughter and also give to charity, when he's bringing in a million dollars.

He doesn't give to charity because he is using his money for himself. And somehow he thinks this is a good thing? Doesn't his bible tell him otherwise?

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
