Sarah Palin: Palling Around With Secessionists:

Anyone who says these are the best candidates in a long time loses me. And if Obama is so smart , why has he done so many dumb things in his campaign. Sorry, tirning the Democratic party over to a guy who is a lot5 more light-weight than Brooks claims is a big mistake.

yes, obama has done so many dumb things that he's up by 11 points in the gallup tracking poll, and john mccain looked lost in the town hall format at which he is just so brilliant

So Brooks thinks that Palin is a "cancer" but the guy who appointed her is one of "the two best candidates we've had in a long time"? Does not compute.

Gaymike makes sense. He knows of what he speaks. Most of you do'nt, but he is way ahead of you & instead or arguing, you should do as deep of research as he has before opening your mouths. Think!!! It's important...you care, therefore you must get as educated as fast as you can. This vote means more than in all of history!

Well, the economy is in a meltdown, but we are beginning to see which conservatives are at least honest intellectually and which ones will go down with the ship as racists and xenophobes. Not a lot of comfort, but some. This one is voting for that One.

Brooks is difficult to figure. I wouldn't necessarily call him honest at least not all of the time but neither is he prone to excessive prevarication or character assassination like say Charles Krauthammer or William Kristol (if ever there was an anti-intellectual it is Kristol). Brooks is an ideologue but he is also appreciative of intellectuality. His comments above are a recognition that it's possible to disagree with someone on the basis of ideas yet still respect that person. What has dismayed me about Brooks has been his ready willingness to disagree with liberals/Democrats while attempting to defend the indefensible. (i.e., 8 years of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney). If Brooks was truly honest he would have railed against GOP excesses before the 2006 election and before it became obvious that his party will be wiped out in the November election. Correct me if I'm wrong but Brooks was a regular pro-Bush drum beater until reality proved that Bush, and, his economic and political agenda were ill advised (I'm being kind).

We in the Democratic party often pull our hair out because we can't often get it together enough to find a common voice. I often (grudgingly) admired/envied the Republicans because when they got behind an idea/person, they were immovable. So when one of them comes out and states an obvious truth about a Republican failure, it's pretty astonishing. Brooks is saying what many, if not most (in their hearts anyway) know about Palin: she's dangerous. For this reason alone McCain should be judged unworthy to lead our country.

David Brooks has always been by idea of a thoughtful conservative, quite unlike the Bush neocowboys.

.....merely a cleverer shill without the tortured, pseudo-recondite, acerbity of George Will. Still he comes across as a trifle humbler and even has a sense of humour....

Mafia 329 Be careful of reading into rainbows what you think God means. I think you should celebrate Barracks climb to success, since you yourself have a grandson of mixed heritage. He represents progress in America, a vision of the future, not the past. I'm sorry you feel voting for Mccain is your only option, but do as you must. America will not heal until your generation passes away. Think of the future and hope for an America that has buried this old prejudices. I to have Grandparents who love their bi-racial grandchildren ,but are still at heart prejudice. Search your heart and rid yourself of the evil of hatred.

David Brooks is at least 4 years too late, and has missed his chance to join Kevin Phillips in identifying not just G.W., but the whole Bush clan as a phenomenon that has been nothing but toxic to us and the world. Phillips got right to it not later than the end of the preface to "American Dynasty," in saying that the sooner we've rid ourselves of the Bush clan, the better. Well, Phillips' true conservative and Republican clarion call came too late, and fell on deaf ears in 2004, to prevent the reelection of G.W. Now we have the joke of all jokes, Palin, but it looks like the U.S. is actually too smart, as dumb as we are, to fall for anymore republican crap for the time being, if the polls are at all accurate as of this writing. So, David Brooks, welcome to the club... the club where for you the truth hurts. Some club, huh?

The way McCain/Palin arouses their rallies is in the same way m0bs are riled up. They use "c0de" words to get those negative reactions from their crowds. Most people are so unaware of their programming that they don't even know when "w0rds" can tick them off.

All the neocon politicians have mastered these "c0de" words and use them in their rhetoric at rallies and on TV every day. Those are are subject to reacting are the groups of people the republicans are trying to wake up and make a difference in this campaign.

There are people who know these c0de words and are amazed that there are those who act as though they don't know what's going on. But it's all playing out as the neocons want it to play and most of you don't even know you're BEING played.

What a shame!

Amen!! The McCain-Palin ticket is evoking violence from their racist base. They are exploiting their mindless followers to a fever pitch. Palin is a cancer no doubt, and probably more life threatening than we can imagine. Unbelievable that they are getting away with their attacks.
04:26 PM on 10/09/2008
What has happened to poor Levi Johnson? We haven't seen him out campaigning since the convention. Is he having second thoughts about marrying Palin's daughter, or do they have him locked up some where so he can't cry out for help?

Please... let's not go there. Even if she had, I wouldn't want to know about it.

I just hope her Mom gets back to Alaska ASAP and STAYS THERE. For the good of the family and everything. America too.

If the Republicans lose, won't it be fascinating to see if this marriage between two unwilling teenagers still takes place?
