Here's a silver lining to the porn patrol: if he manages to outlaw porn, we should see a dramatic improvement in Internet speeds as the Web traffic goes down.

Just sayin'
12:09 AM on 03/21/2012
You might be on to something. A premier web browser that blocks all porn sites and video streaming would be worth the money. Seriously.

It can't be done. Porn viewers will merely link via VPNs to proxies in countries that will allow them full access to the internet.

That makes zero sense. People would just use another browser. Internet speeds come from overall usage not browsers.

But porn is what drives customers to demand that ISPs speed up in the first place. All innovation will cease.

Has the Hon. Mr. Grayson gotten his Mercedes repaired yet? (Or I guess replaced, the thing looked totaled.)

Mr. Grayson ran a red light in Orlando and slammed into a bus, injuring two or three people. A passenger was with him was with him (don't ask, don't tell, I always say...), I guess she was uninjured.

But his Mercedes looked pretty much done for. Yes, his MERCEDES.

I don't understand why everyone can't see that Santorum has a powerful inconspicuous backer. And I do not mean his Billionaire sponsor. It is the Church--but not in the way you may think.

I mean the Church is the powerful manipulator behind the scenes. All Churches as one (e pluribus unum). It is the Church's will that these morality changes be put in to law. It bolsters their unseen authority.

The Church has controlled human sexuality and procreation for centuries. But modern humans are, for the most part, people who can think for themselves, and decide when they want to have sex, have children, have an abortion, use contraception, marry, and know which sex they are attracted to. People know their circumstance and feelings and can freely make decisions that go against the Church's stance with impunity. Why, because Americans have freedom of religion. But if these items become laws...Americans don't have freedom of laws. Get it now!
10:38 PM on 03/20/2012
Those who protest the loudest against something are most likely to be doing said something in their private life. Any bets on how big Santorum's porn library is?

He must think about sex all the time, since he believes sex is for procreation only. Poor Rick, so horny and frustrated......

Conservatives use the word "freedom" like they own it. On second thought, they abuse it like it was a rental.

Obviously, what they mean is *their* freedom to push everyone else around.

Florida doesn't deserve you, Mr. Grayson.

It's actually a brilliant jobs program.

A company I worked for actually employed a person to read all our emails and view all the web pages that we saw on our work computers. Just think how many people can be put to work checking everybody's web activities for porn. And then more people will need to be hired to monitor the first group's web activity. I'm thinking this will create at least a million jobs!

As everyone knows, before Facebook, 90% of the hits on the Net involved PORN. If the far right Christians excluded hypocrites from their churches, they would have no parishioners. Americans ADORE porn, just like booze and other drugs, not to mention getting fat. We're a nation of sheer hedonists, some of whom are shameless enough to pretend to be "righteous" once a week.

Funny how the Santorums of the world can so easily MYOB when it comes to turning a blind eye to corporate pollution, corporate exploitation of workers; and so called corporate "personhood"! They want a government so small it cannot function but just the right size to inhabit a woman's private parts or peeping tom into one's bedroom!
09:51 PM on 03/20/2012
I agree that Santorum's suggestion is ludicrous and uninforceable. However, I don't believer this is just a market choice. There is a big difference between a woman choosing to have an abortion and a woman "choosing" to appear in a pornographic film. As with prosititution, this is often much less a choice than an economic necessity for very young people with few options. While some performers may profit from this decision, most suffer for it. Since I agree that it cannot be outlawed into nonexistence, I strongly support laws that will give these young people more support and protections.

Andrea, your comments are old-fashioned Catherine McKinnon feminist boilerplate. Read the great book by another, better kind of feminist, Nadine Strossen, former president of the ACLU, called Defending Pornography, which she often literally did in court, because she is a REAL feminist who wants to defend the right of women to do whatever they choose with their bodies. And wants to protect women from the women like McKinnon who want to "protect" them from sexual desire at all cost.

Totally agree with you. In the end you have to respect women as grown-ups, making their own decisions on how to live their life. I mean, I'm sure porn isn't that great a job, but it beats starving and IMHO probably beats working a 60 hour week at a chicken-killing factory to barely make ends meet.

I can be anti-porn from having a significant other who became obsessed by it. And that is the main reason against porn -- it gives unrealistic expectations, I mean hey, I'm well preserved but I didn't sleep until two in the afternoon and do drugs today -- it's not real. But the exploitation angle, it just doesn't cut it, and is not the strongest argument.
